By Vince D’Writer: Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (26-2-1, 16 KOs), is anxious to make his return inside of the squared circle to take another step towards a title shot, and also a potential rematch with Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Before Cruz can turn his attention to either alternative, he must first complete the task ahead of him, which is a man who is coming up in weight to make a name for himself in a new division.
Eduardo “Zurdito” Ramirez (27-2-3, 12 KOs), is the man who will attempt to derail Cruz’s future endeavors. He receives his opportunity on September 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles California. Ramirez is entering a new weight class, and he receives an immediate opportunity to make a statement in the 135-pound division.
Cruz is already a contender in the division, but he refuses to underestimate his next opponent. “We’re not going to take anything away from anybody, and some people may think that Eduardo is going to be an easy opponent for me, but I couldn’t be in more of disagreement. I think he’s going to be a complicated rival for me, while at the same time I have the mindset of welcoming him to the division in the harshest of ways, and showing him what I’m capable of,” Cruz stated during a recent virtual press conference.
The man known as “Pitbull” was gradually building momentum during the course of his career, but his biggest moment transpired on one of boxing’s grandest of stages. In December 2021 Isaac Cruz was selected to be the replacement opponent for Gervonta Davis. The fight was the featured attraction on Showtime pay-per-view, and even though Cruz didn’t win the fight, he earned the respect of both Davis, and the entire boxing community.
During his match against Davis, Isaac Cruz traveled in one direction, and that direction was forward. He applied relentless pressure and had success attacking the body and coming up to the head, but unfortunately for Cruz, he fell a little short on the scorecards. Cruz suffered a loss on his record, but he earned a win status-wise, because he showed he is a legitimate lightweight contender.
Four months later Cruz jumped back into the ring to face Yuriorkis Gamboa. It became apparent very quickly that the 40-year-old Gamboa was severely overmatched. Cruz dropped Gamboa in rounds two, three, and four. In round 5 Cruz ended the bout by landing a vicious right hand that sent Gamboa falling into the ropes.
Isaac Cruz is a victim of his own success due to the fact that he’s become a fighter in which the bigger named fighters are willing to avoid. However, Cruz has the mindset of if he keeps winning, the big named boxers and the champion of the weight class will have no choice but to fight him.
The twenty-four-year old has set big goals for himself and they motivate him, but he is aware of the fact that before he looks ahead he has to focus on what is in front of him. “The fight against Tank Davis absolutely motivated me, and my goal is to face him once again, but in order to do that, simple… take down every opponent I have in front of me. Eduardo Ramirez is going to be my next rival. I take it very seriously, and I don’t like to overlook anybody, but my obligation is to win this fight, and then move forward in order to bring a world title back to Mexico City.”
