    Tennis, WTA – National Bank Open 2022: Zheng gets past Andreescu

    Chinese Qinwen Zheng beat Canadian Bianca Andreescu 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 to advance to the last 8 of the National Bank Open at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Thursday night.

    Zheng, ranked No 51, will play Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 14 seed, next.

    The 19-year-old Chinese edged out Canadian wildcard Rebecca Marino (3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4) and benefited from the abandonment of Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed (6-1, 2-1) earlier in the tournament.

    In the previous rounds of the Canadian Open, Andreescu, ranked No 53, won against Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 11 seed (7-6 (5), 6-4) and Frenchwoman Alize Cornet (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
