It was wonderful to see so many ladies come out to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Mid-Week Ladies Tennis being played at the Victoria Park Tennis Courts, Rockhampton.
Des Campbell, as patron of the RTA spoke about the early days of raising funds to get the tennis courts in a playable condition for each round of tennis.
Dell Bunt then spoke of the early days ringing and asking any lady who could play this lovely game of ours to come out and have a hit.
Tennis fixtures were running on a Saturday afternoon and also a lot of Social games were played around the many courts in the Rockhampton and surrounding areas.
Dell, knowing this and with her contacts, organised Mid-Week Ladies Tennis to start on a Wednesday as an extra day of tennis for all ladies. Little did Dell know then how successful this competition would be and that it would be still going strong today.
Bub Bean spoke about the tremendous friendships that had been made over the years and of some of the antics that were got up to.
Also mention was made of the trips by bus and car to Gladstone and Biloela for tennis matches and the return matches which were eagerly looked forward to.
Jill South kept the afternoon humming along and the Ladies sure made a lot of noise as they caught up with many people that they had not seen for many years.
The next social event for the ladies of Mid-Week Tennis is the Gala Dinner to be held on 5 October. For more information re this exciting event please ring Marg 0407 627 423.
