Host Dow High held Holt without a shot on goal in beating the Rams 2-0 to start the boys soccer season on Wednesday.
“It was a good start to the season. The boys played with good pace and intensity,” Chargers coach Drew Emrich said. “Our back line was very well organized tonight. Keegan Luick had a shutout in net and really helped organize our back line.”
Dow’s first goal resulted from a corner kick into the box that deflected off of two Holt defenders and into the back of the net.
“Prior to that, we put some great pressure on them and forced them into some tough defensive stops,” Emrich said.
Chase Horneber scored the second goal with an assist from James Toole.
“It’s a solid way to start the season,” Emrich said of the victory. “Like everyone in the state, the season comes so quick and you’re off and running. We have things to work on, for sure, but a good home win against a solid program is nice.”
