    Tennis, WTA – Western & Southern Open 2022: Kvitova sees off Tomljanovic

    Petra Kvitova advanced to the last four of the Western & Southern Open by winning against Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2, 6-3 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Cincinnati on Friday evening.

    Kvitova, ranked No 28, will face American Madison Keys next.

    Earlier in the tournament, the Czech defeated Swiss Jil Teichmann (6-7 (2), 7-6 (6), 6-3), Romanian Sorana Cirstea (6-2, 6-3) and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed (6-1, 4-6, 6-0).

    Tomljanovic, ranked No 63, beat American qualifier Taylor Townsend (6-4, 3-6, 7-5), Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 3 seed (6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-2) and Russian Veronika Kudermetova (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Cincy Open.

    Cincinnati WTA 1000, other quarter-finals results (Linder Tennis Family Center, hard, USD 2.527.250, most recent results first):

    • Jessica Pegula vs. Caroline Garcia
    • Aryna Sabalenka vs. Shuai Zhang
    • Madison Keys beat Elena Rybakina: 6-2, 6-4
