The Cincinnati Masters is often an indicator of form for the US Open, and we have a pair of exciting finals coming up.
Ohio’s Lindner Family Tennis Centre will play host to both the WTA and ATP Tour’s big finals this week.
Resurgence is a bit of a theme in Cincy, with the women’s final set to be contested by two former top ten players.
Caroline Garcia has fought her way into the championship match in Mason after coming through the qualifying tournament.
Garcia has ousted three top ten players on her way to the final, with the third being dispatched in her semi-final against Aryna Sabalenka.
Kvitova herself has described her game as one-dimensional, but when she is at her best, there are few players on the WTA Tour who can handle the double Wimbledon champion on a hard court.
The courts in Cincy have been particularly zippy this week which has aided Kvitova’s run to the final.
Given her pedigree, Kvitova must be the favourite to take the title in a final between two unseeded players.
A tournament win for either player would ensure a return to the top 20.
Kvitova says that the great thing about tennis is that you get a new chance every week, and she has felt an enormous difference after her faltering display in Toronto.
Garcia has likely secured a US Open seeding with her performance but isn’t thinking about Flushing Meadows just yet.
“I don’t know, you tell me,” Garcia said when asked if there was any advantage to being seeded.
“I don’t really care. I’m really glad to be seeded for US Open just to practice on the good courts.”
The Cincinnati Masters women’s singles final is scheduled to get underway at 19:00 BST.
Later in the day, another resurgent talent, Borna Coric, will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas is one of the clear form players of the tour this year with his 46 match wins in 2022 enough to put him at the head of the ATP Tour in those stakes.

Coric has downed some big names in his path to the final, but none bigger than Rafael Nadal whose comeback to the tour was swiftly ended by the Croatian.
Tsitsipas expects an epic fight from Coric and is not duped by the former World no 12’s depressed ranking.
“I’m prepared for it. I know it’s not an easy task playing against him,” said the 24-year-old Tsitsipas.
“He’s coming back from an injury, he’s playing great tennis, and he’s going to work very hard for it.”
Coric believes he has already exceeded expectations for the week and can play with total freedom in the final.
“I don’t have much to lose,” said Coric.
“I have done everything that I could this week and more than I expected, so I’m just going to go out there and enjoy my time tomorrow on the court.”
The men’s singles final is scheduled to start at 21:30 BST.
