American Danielle Collins, the No 19 seed, reached the last 16 of the US Open by winning against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 6-4, 7-6 (9) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Sunday night.
Collins, ranked No 19, will face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the No 6 seed, next.
The American defeated Japanese Naomi Osaka (7-6 (5), 6-3) and Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Cornet, ranked No 40, won against No 11 seed Emma Raducanu (6-3, 6-3) and Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-1, 1-6, 6-3).
