ELIZABETH — The fifth annual West Virginia High School Girls Invitational Golf Championship tees off today at Mingo Bottom Golf Club in Elizabeth, W.Va.
Golfers will be split into two divisions, the Championship Division, which will play 18 holes, and the Open Division, which will play nine.
For the fifth consecutive year, John Marshall has entered the largest number of girls with six golfers making the trip. JM has sent the most participants every year of the event.
Representing John Marshall in the Championship Division will be Jocelyn Blatt, Payten Clark, Amelia Kaste, Morgan Messner and Lilly Roman. Lila Roman will compete in the Open Division.
Other local golfers competing in the event will be Wheeling Central’s Maddie Potts and Oak Glen’s Brasinn Provenzano, both in the Championship Division.
Two-time event winner Taylor Sargent of Cabell Midland will tee off at 1 p.m. in a group with Hurricane’s Savannah Hawkins, Westside’s Kerri Anne Cook and Roane County’s Emerson Simons.
James Monroe, George Washington and Herbert Hoover are tied for the second most competitors behind John Marshall with four each.
The first tee time is scheduled for 10:50 a.m. this morning.
