India vs England Live Score 3rd ODI: Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma take IND to 169 despite collapse

Wavering betwen fullish and back of a length throughout that over and Jhulan keeps Beaumont pinned. She starts her farewell by conceding no runs. 

There is Jhulan Goswami with the ball in her hands. Tammy Beaumont is facing up with Emma Lamb at the other end.

This game is happening with the backdrop of an all-time great retiring from the game of course. Jhulan Goswami has played a few blinders in the past, most notably ending Australia’s extraordinary winning run with a big hit, but it wasn’t to happen today. However, she is only getting ready to show what really made her the legend she is. What a story it would be if she takes 4-5 wickets and helps India defend this total. 

It was a strange day for Smriti Mandhana. She had been saved from being run out after an almighty mix up, the kind that is practically a death sentence for any batter, but the throw never came on time and so she was saved. Then she was dismissed after chopping on in the most bizarre fashion. She had a weary smile on her face as she started her long walk back, perhaps she knew that something like this had to happen considering how she escaped earlier. 

Deepti Sharma remains unbeaten on 68 off 106. It is a good recovery in the end but India will certainly need a blinder of a spell from the retiring Jhulan Goswami in her last match to pull off a win here. That is exactly what Kate Cross did early on, which is why India lost almost half their batting lineup in the first eight overs for the score of 24. Smriti Mandhana’s 50 off 79 and Deepti Sharma’s 69 off 106 is what has taken them close to 170, with some valuable hits from Pooja Vastrakar on the side as well. 

Wide and short from Dean and Deepti cuts it behind point for four. She moves to 65 off 103 and India are 166/9 at the end of the 45th over.

Renuka Singh tries to loft it down the ground, the ball floats up nicely and falls into the hands the fielder at cover. As easy a catch as they come.

Jhulan Goswami’s last innings ends in a golden duck. Kemp gets the ball to jag back in from a full length and Jhulan misses it. Applause around Lord’s as she walks back.

And England line up in a guard of honour for Jhulan Goswami. 

Vastrakar lbw b Dean 22 (38), India 148/7 in 39 overs

A bit of an uptick in the scoring rate in recent overs with Vastrakar trying to find the boundaries more often. This is turning into a rather worrying partnership for England. 

Davies offers width and Vastrakar sends it over the bowler’s head downtown for a four. The run rate remains just above 3.6 and these two might want to get a move on now. 

Deepti Sharma has moved into the 40s and she has had her fair share of luck. Apart from a couple of near run outs due to mix-ups she gets one that just about beats the outside edge in the 34th from Freya Davies. 

A run rate of 3.54 at the moment. Needless to say that India’s priority at the moment is to keep themselves from being all out before the 40th over. Deepti is on 34 off 58 balls, Pooja Vastrakar has scored one run in 12 balls. 

Excellent low catch at midwicket from Dean and Hemalatha  has to walk. She stepped down the ground and tried to tuck it away against he spin but could not keep it down.

Smashed over mid-on, a bit sketchy but that is a boundary, something that India desperately need. 

Well that is one of the most bizarre dismissals you would ever see. A short delivery that she tried to pull but the ball took the toe end of the bat and deflected on to the stumps. That could have gone anywhere really and rarely do those go to the stumps, almost as lucky as a hit wicket for the bowler.

She is pretty much carrying the Indian innings here. She has got there in 77 balls and India are 87/4 at the end of the 23rd over. 

Deepti plays as late as she possibly could and thus manufactures some width. Cuts it away then to get a boundary. A sense of stability now for India since the drinks break. 

It’s Smriti Mandhana or nothing for India at the moment. She has scored 33 off 47. Kate Cross has been all over the Indian top order thus far and it will take a monumental effort for them to put up a competitive total from here. 

An uppish drive from Mandhana off Kemp off the fourth ball of the 11th overm and it falls just short of Beaumont who was diving forward. Mandhana moves to 21 off 40. 

A half-hearted LBW review really but England have got that one right. India on some real shaky ground now. Umpire had given not out thinking there was two sounds but then the ball tracking shows that the ball hit the pads directly. England celebrate as the replays show three reds and the decision has to be reversed.

A full delivery by Cross, pitched around off. Harmanpreet gets beaten and it hits her in front of middle and off. Hawk-Eye shows it would hit the leg stump and nothing on Ultra-Edge.

A full delivery by Cross, around fifth. Harmanpreet tries to drive it and ends up getting cut in half, beats the inside edge!

Pitched up by Davies and Harmanpreet drives it through cover for two runs.

A full delivery by Cross and around leg. Bhatia goes for the straight drive with utter confidence but totally fails! The variation and swings away from the left hander! TWO WICKETS IN SEVEN BALLS! TOP BOWLING!

Back of a length delivery by Davies, outside off. Mandhana hammers it in front of point for a four! Second four in this over, after the opener smacked one two deliveries ago.

Cross pitches it outside off and Shafali fails to connect well and there is gap between bat and pad. The ball surges through and crashes against the stumps! WHAT WAS SHE THINKING HERE!

A full delivery by Davies, and around fifth. Mandhana tries to go for the cover drive but gets beaten, as it goes past the outside edge!

A full delivery by Davies and Mandhana meant to go for the off drive, but ended up edging it behind point. The fielder at deep third ran across to stop it. Two runs. Mandhana opens her account in the first delivery itself.

England have won the toss, and opt to bowl in the 3rd ODI vs India.

Toss is coming up now and is scheduled for 3:00 PM IST.

With pride at stake, England will be seeking a consolation win. All eyes will be on Danni Wyatt, who registered 65 runs off 58 balls (including six fours) in the second ODI.

In the second ODI, Jhulan failed to take a wicket and conceded 31 runs in seven overs. Meanwhile, in the first ODI, she took a wicket in 10 overs, conceding 20 runs and registering 2 maidens.

India defeated England by 88 runs in the second ODI with Harmanpreet hammering an unbeaten century (143 off 111 balls including 18 fours and four sixes). India posted 333 for five in 50 overs.

Chasing a target of 334, England were bowled out for 245 in 44.2 overs, with Renuka bagging a four-wicket haul.

Ahead of the match, captain Harmanpreet said, “The Lord’s game is very special for us because it’s Jhulan’s retirement and we wanted to enjoy that game without any pressure and I’m really happy that we were able to win today and now we can just have fun in that game.”

Former India player and national selector Saba Karim hailed the Indian team, who registered their second-ever ODI series win in England. Speaking to Sports18, he said, “Incredible achievement and India has done this after 23 years if my memory serves me right. Wonderful performance by the ladies. It was so great to see Harmanpreet bat in that manner, she’s batting with far more freedom which is very heartening to see. I feel at this stage the Indian side is largely dependent on Smriti Mandhana and Harman, whenever either one of them scores the other batters on the side tend to ride the wave, which is perfectly fine. So, it’s good to see the Indian team doing so well in England.”

Ahead of her final match, Jhulan said, “I have played two World Cup finals but couldn’t win the trophy. That remains my only regret because you prepare for World Cup for four years. There is a lot of hard work. For every cricketer, it is a dream-come-true moment to win a World Cup.”
