Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the No 3 seed, advanced to the second round of the Parma Open when Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova retired at the Tennis Club Parma on Tuesday afternoon.
Begu, ranked No 33, led 7-5, 5-1 when Tomova, ranked No 93, pulled out on Tuesday at the Tennis Club Parma.
The Romanian will play the winner of the match between Italian wildcard Matilde Paoletti and Romanian lucky loser Gabriela Lee next.
