Training Facilitator for the Volunteers for Youth Pal Program Mendy Stone shares information regarding the 16th annual Fall for Youth Golf Marathon.
1. When is the event?
The Fall for Youth Golf Marathon will start at 7 a.m. Oct. 6 at Heritage Hills Golf Course, 3140 Tee Drive. Volunteers for Youth will provide breakfast, lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
2. How does the marathon work?
Participating golfers will tackle the task of playing 100 holes of golf – under modified rules that make it possible. Participants pledge $1 per hole then they are responsible to reach out to their circle of influence/friends and seek out additional pledge support with the individual goal of reaching $2,000. The marathon is not about the score, rather the number of holes played. For example, on a par 3, a golfer could hit 3-4 golf balls and it would count for 3-4 holes. Anyone who does not want to play, but wants to help can sponsor a hole by contacting Roxanne.B@volunteersforyouth.com.
3. What are the prizes?
Prizes are awarded to longest drive and closest to the pin winners of the day. A prize is also given to the fundraiser who raised the highest funds. The winner of the highest fundraiser gets to possess a traveling trophy. Some of the other prize items include a patio heater, golf balls, gift certificates, fall basket of fall items and more.
4. How does the event impact the community?
Since Volunteers for Youth is a local grassroots organization, they heavily depend on local support. So these golfers going out and doing this incredible thing for us as an organization is super important. Volunteers for Youth has some funding streams to support some programs, but there are many things that need to have individual local support in order to keep the doors open, pay the rent, etc. When those things are taken care of and supported, we can continue to offer the really awesome and important services to the 6- to 18-year-olds that are served.
5. What is Volunteers for Youth?
Volunteers for Youth is a non-profit organization with a mission to help all Rogers County youth succeed through group mentoring programs, after-school BLAST program, a Drug-Free Communities project, a Healthy Living Program and the local Farmer’s Market.
