MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Eagles women’s tennis squad continued the final part of their Fall 2022 schedule Saturday. They came home for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup with Alverno College. The Eagles (6-4, 6-1 NACC) ran over the Inferno (0-10, 0-8) on their way to a 9-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
– Edgewood College was once again nearly flawless in doubles play. Maddy Coopmans/Jewel Lindwall in slot one and Cassie Henderson/Evelyn Taylor in third billing both posted 8-0 victories. Ellie Murphy and Callie Belschner wrapped up the 3-0 sweep with an 8-2 win in no. 2 doubles.
– Taylor earned her first victory in no. 1 singles with her opponent retiring from the match. Taylor took a 6-0 win in the first set.
– Coopmans put a bow on her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in no. 2 doubles over Kalei Hanna to clinch the match.
– Henderson earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Merub Irian in the no. 4 matchup, while Madelyn Connaughty took a 6-2, 6-1 victory in fifth billing against Alaina Kamalian.
– Belschner claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory in sixth billing against Michal Irfan, and Christina Ekkela wrapped up the clean sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in no. 3 singles.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
– The Eagles are now 15-0 against the Inferno since 2007.
– Each of Edgewood College’s six conference victories in the fall slate have been by 9-0 margins.
– Lindwall, Coopmans, and Taylor did not drop a game in the victory.
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will continue their home stand in Madison, Wis. on Friday for another conference affair. They’ll play host to St. Norbert College starting at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles are 6-5 against the Green Knights since 2003 and have won four straight.
