LAKEWOOD — The 12 local girls who will represent the area at the Section VI Tennis Championships are set after the second day of competition at the Chautauqua-Cattraugus Athletic Association Championships on Friday at the Lakewood YMCA.

Four doubles teams — one each from Chautauqua Lake, Southwestern, Frewsburg and Fredonia — earned sectional berths at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville next Friday and Saturday after claiming quarterfinal victories yesterday.

Moving on to today’s doubles semifinals are Olivia Shearer and Elise Riedesel of Chautauqua Lake; Erika Pickard and Abby Strother of Southwestern; Emily Wakamatsu and Alyssa Colburn of Frewsburg; and Lucy Prevet and Nella Darrell-Sterbak of Fredonia.

Shearer and Riedesel defeated Morgan Ekstrom and Madasyn Lander of Frewsburg 6-0, 6-2 in the second round, and knocked off Rachel Swanson and Jerzie Smith of Falconer 6-3, 6-2 in the third round; Pickard and Strother upended Gabbi Freeburg and Cayzlee Johnson of Chautauqua Lake 6-3, 7-5 in the second round and defeated Rose Scordo and Hailee Zalwsky of Olean 6-4, 6-1 in the third round; Wakamatsu and Colburn downed Madilyn Strickland and Karlee Rock of Jamestown 6-0, 6-0 in the second round, and Gianna Gullo and Charis LaBarr of Fredonia 6-2, 6-0 in the third round; and Prevet and Nella Darrell-Sterback advanced by downing Jolee Shultz and Abriele Monogahn of Jamestown 6-1, 6-1 in the second round and knocking off Jay Padhya and Olivia Allen of Southwestern 6-1, 6-0 in the third round.

The semifinals and finals for both singles and doubles will be at 10 this morning to determine seeding. This year, all four seeds will advance to sectionals.
