KANSAS CITY — The Capital City Lady Cavaliers fell one win short of a Final Four berth Monday, losing 5-3 in a Class 2 state quarterfinal dual against St. Pius X: Kansas City.
Capital City trailed 2-1 after doubles play. Megan Wilde and Manveeta Vuppala won 8-4 for the Lady Cavaliers, while Sarah Wilde and Leslie Locke lost 6-8 and Carly Carron and Brooke Ivy lost 6-8.
In singles action, Megan Wilde won 6-2, 6-4 for Capital City and Vuppala won 6-0, 6-1.
Sarah Wilde lost 2-6, 6-4 (4-10 match tiebreaker), Locke lost 2-6, 0-6 and Carron lost 3-6, 4-6, clinching the dual win for St. Pius X: Kansas City (19-2).
Ivy was trailing 4-6, 4-5 in her singles match when the dual was clinched.
Capital City ends the team portion of its season with a 13-4 record.
Three Lady Cavaliers will compete in the individual portion of the Class 2 state tournament Thursday and Friday at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. Sarah Wilde will play in the singles tournament, while Megan Wilde and Vuppala will play in the doubles tournament.
