STANFORD, Calif. – Washington had a phenomenal first round at ITA Northwest Super Regionals, as three unseeded Huskies knocked out three of the eight seeded players. But the Dawgs were unable to follow up those opening wins with victories in their second matches at Stanford’s Taube Tennis Center.
Han-Chih Lin, Cesar Bouchelaghem, and Dzianis Zharyn all had impressive opening wins in the 32-player first round this morning. Bouchelaghem made his season debut with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over No. 6 seed Arthus de la Bassetiere of Gonzaga. Lin knocked off Stanford No. 4-seed Aryan Chaudhary, 6-4, 6-2. And Zharyn, in his first collegiate singles match, won a marathon over 5th-seed Samir Banerjee of Stanford, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5.
The round of 16 however saw the Dawgs bow out. Bouchelaghem lost, 6-2, 6-2, to Carl Emil Overbeck of Cal. Lin dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Oregon’s Ivailo Keremedchiev. Zharyn withdrew from his second round match.
The Huskies are done at Stanford and will next have a pair of tournaments on the schedule in November, the CCB Invitational at Samford and the Gonzaga Invitational, both from Nov. 4-6.
