ATLANTA, Ga. — The No. 19 Texas Men’s Golf team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 1 Vanderbilt on Tuesday afternoon in the Match Play semifinals of the East Lake Cup at East Lake Golf Club. The Longhorns will face No. 25 Pepperdine in the Match Play consolation match on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Freshman Christiaan Maas earned the lone individual win for Texas on Tuesday. Maas claimed a 4&2 victory against Reid Davenport.
The eighth annual East Lake Cup features the four semifinalists from last year’s NCAA Championship, including defending national champion Texas, runner-up Arizona State and semifinalists Vanderbilt and Pepperdine.
The Texas-Pepperdine match is set to begin at 10:15 a.m. Central off the first tee. Golf Channel will provide live coverage of Wednesday’s action from 2-5 p.m. Central.
The Lineup
- Freshman Christiaan Maas posted a 4&2 victory against Reid Davenport. After the two players halved the opening two holes, Maas won hole 3 and maintained his lead for the remainder of the contest. He added wins on holes 5 and 8 to grab a 3-up cushion, before Davenport answered with wins on holes 10 and 12 to trim the margin to 1-up. Maas closed out the victory with wins on holes 14, 15 and 16.
- Sophomore Alejandro Gonzalez fell by a 5&4 margin to Matthew Riedel.
- Senior Mason Nome dropped a 5&4 decision to William Moll.
- Freshman Keaton Vo fell by a 5&4 margin to Cole Sherwood.
- Senior Travis Vick dropped a 3-up decision to Gordon Sargent. The match was halted after 13 holes with Vick trailing 3-down once Vanderbilt recorded its third individual point in the overall team match score.
