Jake Oettinger is expected to miss at least a week with a lower-body injury, general manager Jim Nill said.
The goalie sustained the injury during the second period of a 6-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday.
“It looked like he caught his skate, foot, on the post,” coach Peter DeBoer said after the game. “Fluky thing.”
Oettinger is 5-1-0 with a 1.40 goals-against average and .952 save percentage in seven games.
Scott Wedgewood will start against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday (8:30 PM ET; BSSW, BSW, ESPN+, SN NOW). The 30-year-old is 0-2-1 with a 4.29 GAA and .880 save percentage in three games.
“We’re very comfortable with [Wedgewood],” Nill said Monday. “That’s why we signed him. We knew these situations were going to arise, there was going to be injuries. It’s next man up and Scott’s ready for that. He’ll do a good job for us.”
The Stars signed Matt Murray to a one-year, entry-level contract, and he likely will be Wedgewood’s backup. Murray is 2-2-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .926 save percentage in five games with Texas of the American Hockey League. The 24-year-old had signed a two-year AHL contract with Texas on July 18.
Other options for the Stars included recalling Adam Scheel or Remi Poirier from Idaho in the ECHL. The Stars do not have room under the NHL salary cap to recall Anton Khudobin from the AHL.

Boston Bruins
Charlie McAvoy practiced in a regular jersey and is ahead of schedule in his return from offseason surgery on his left shoulder.
The defenseman had surgery June 3 and was expected to need six months to recover.
“He’s ahead of Dec. 1 [return], but he’s just starting in his progression,” coach Jim Montgomery said. “We have our internal timeline. I’m hopeful it will be before Nov. 24, to be honest, but he’s got to check boxes as we continue to progress here.”
McAvoy will travel with the Bruins on their upcoming three-game road trip, which starts against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+, TVAS, SN NOW), but will not play.
“Just to be out there to keep getting practices and pregame skates to be with guys, I think we’re at the contact point where it’s more important for me to be on the ice with the guys than it is to just be here by myself,” McAvoy said.
McAvoy had an NHL career-best 56 points (10 goals, 46 assists) in 78 games last season.
“We’re just excited that he’s allowed to [have] contact, but he’s still far from being able to play for us,” Montgomery said. — Joe Pohoryles
Pittsburgh Penguins
Jeff Carter is day to day because of a lower-body injury.
The forward missed practice Monday after being injured during the first period of Pittsburgh’s 3-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Saturday, its fourth straight defeat. Carter likely won’t play against the Boston Bruins at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+, TVAS, SN NOW).
Carter has six points (two goals, four assists) in nine games.
Drew O’Connor was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League and replaced Carter at center on the third line.
“His last three games, he’s been one of their best players, if not their best,” coach Mike Sullivan said of O’Connor’s play in AHL. “He’s played very well. Obviously with ‘Carts’ being out right now, we needed another center-iceman. Specifically we needed a center-iceman that could kill penalties.”
Along with Carter, Kris Letang could be out for the Penguins on Tuesday. The defenseman did not practice Monday because of an illness.
Letang has four assists and is a minus-5 in nine games this season.
There were no set defense pairs during practice, and defenseman Jeff Petry replaced Letang on the top power-play unit with forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust. — Wes Crosby
Vancouver Canucks
Brock Boeser will be a game-time decision against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday (10 p.m. ET; SN360, MSG, MSG 2, ESPN+, SN NOW) after practicing Monday.
The forward has missed three games with an undisclosed injury. Boeser had surgery on his hand Sept. 26 that was supposed to keep him out 3-4 weeks, but he returned ahead of schedule to play the season opening game Oct. 12.
“He’s getting close,” coach Bruce Boudreau said.
Boeser, who has four assists in six games. He rotated in on the fourth line during practice and wasn’t in his usual spot on the power play.
“We all know what he is,” Boudreau said. “He’s scored 25 goals every year so it’s just a matter of time before he starts scoring, and he’s a streaky scorer at that. He’s been hurt ever since camp started, so he hasn’t had a real chance to get himself going yet.” — Kevin Woodley
Vegas Golden Knights
Laurent Brossoit was loaned to Henderson of the American Hockey League on a long-term injured reserve conditioning assignment.
The goalie has not played since March 15 and had offseason surgery for an undisclosed injury. He was 10-9-3 with a 2.90 GAA, .895 save percentage and one shutout in 24 games last season.
Logan Thompson and Adin Hill have shared the goalie duties for the Golden Knights this season with Brossoit and Robin Lehner out. Lehner is not expected to play this season because of a hip injury.
