The 2022 NFL trade deadline has already bucked the trend of being a rather uneventful in-season milestone for the league.
There have already been seven trades during the 2022 NFL season, and six of them were agreed upon during the two weeks ahead of the trade deadline. The most notable player to switch teams was Christian McCaffrey, who was traded from the Panthers to the 49ers on Oct. 20.
The Panthers’ decision to trade McCaffrey — a star, three-down running back — seemed to take the lid off the NFL’s reluctance to swing deals. The Jets were able to acquire James Robinson while veteran pass rusher Robert Quinn and 2021 first-round pick Kadarius Toney were sent to the Eagles and Chiefs, respectively, in exchange for draft capital.
Now, as the NFL trade deadline for 2022 approaches, fans have just one question remaining. Who will be the next player traded?
There are plenty of potential trade targets still available. Saints running back Alvin Kamara, Browns running back Kareem Hunt and Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy are among the most recognizable players involved in swirling trade rumors, so it will be interesting to see whether any of them are dealt.
Here are all the trades completed ahead of the 2022 NFL trade deadline as well as the latest news and rumors about those potential top trade targets.
LIVE: Grading every trade at the 2022 NFL deadline
NFL trade deadline 2022: Tracking the latest news, rumors
— 4:05 p.m. ET: Neither Brandin Cooks nor Kareem Hunt were traded before the deadline. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that “there were talks” about Cooks, but he ultimately stayed put.
— 4:03 p.m. ET: Cam Akers wasn’t traded before the deadline, but CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reports that he is seeking a “fair resolution” to his predicament with the Rams. Could that mean a release? We’ll soon find out.
New: With RB Cam Akers not traded by the deadline, I’m told Akers is hoping for a fair resolution for his future beyond the #Rams, as he feels suiting up for them again this season isn’t in the best interest for his NFL path—though the relationship is still amicable, per source.
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) November 1, 2022
— 4:02 p.m. ET: The Panthers are “standing pat” on deadline day, per Albert Breer of The MMQB. They will be keeping DJ Moore and Brian Burns after trading Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson.
— 4:01 p.m. ET: The NFL’s trade deadline has officially passed. That said, deals can still trickle in after the 4 p.m. ET cut-off, so stay tuned in case any trades are announced after the buzzer.
— 3:57 p.m. ET: The Bills are making a trade after all. They are acquiring running back Nyheim Hines from the Colts. He will have a key role as a pass-catching back in the Buffalo offense.
And another! Colts are trading Nyheim Hines to the Buffalo Bills, sources tell ESPN.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 1, 2022
— 3:55 p.m. ET: Five minutes until the 2022 NFL trade deadline passes. The Cowboys will not be making a trade before it does.
Cowboys are officially doing nothing today. Enjoy your afternoon.

— 3:46 p.m. ET: We’re getting to the point where we’re getting confirmation that some players have not been traded. One such is Patriots receiver Kendrick Bourne, who Jordan Schultz of The Score reports will remain in New England.
— 3:39 p.m. ET: An update on the compensation in the William Jackson III trade — the Steelers are getting a conditional seventh-round pick while Washington will get a conditional sixth-round pick, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
— 3:20 p.m. ET: The Broncos are making a move to replace Bradley Chubb. They have acquired Jacob Martin from the Jets to add to their already solid-looking group of pass rushers. Martin has 15 sacks in 69 career games.
The #Broncos are trading for #Jets pass-rusher Jacob Martin, source said, one of several players expected to fill the void left by Bradley Chubb. Denver is giving up a 4th round pick in 2024 in exchange for a 2024 5th.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 1, 2022
— 3 p.m. ET: We have another major trade, and this one is a surprise. The Jaguars acquired Calvin Ridley from the Falcons in exchange for “complex draft compensation.” Ridley was suspended for the 2022 NFL season by the NFL for violating the league’s gambling policy.
Shocker: The #Falcons are trading WR Calvin Ridley to the #Jaguars, sources say, in exchange for complex draft compensation that can be worth at maximum a 2023 5th rounder and a 2024 2nd rounder. Ridley is suspended through at least the 2022 season. pic.twitter.com/Zk6Yb7U5F3
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 1, 2022
— 2:58 p.m. ET: The Dolphins have made another trade to help replace Chase Edmonds. They acquired Jeff Wilson Jr. from the 49ers for a fifth-round pick. Wilson has experience playing in Mike McDaniel’s offense, as both were with the 49ers last season.
Trade: 49ers are trading RB Jeff Wilson to Miami, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 1, 2022
— 2:31 p.m. ET: An update on the Chubb compensation, the Broncos will get a first-round pick as part of the package for Chubb, but they will also get backup running back Chase Edmonds, who will play a role in Denver’s backfield rotation.
Trade terms, source tells ESPN:
MIA trades:
⁃2023 1st (SF pick)
⁃2024 4th
⁃RB Chase EdmondsDEN trades:
⁃OLB Bradley Chubb
⁃2025 5th— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 1, 2022
— 2:26 p.m. ET: The Broncos are making a big trade. They are sending star pass rusher Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins in exchange for at least a first-round pick. Miami lost its own first-round pick due to a tampering investigation but had an extra first-round pick it acquired from San Francisco last year.
Another big trade: Denver is dealing LB Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins for a package that includes the 2023 first-round pick that Miami acquired from San Francisco, sources tell ESPN. pic.twitter.com/lmkIzrQK5h
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 1, 2022
— 2:16 p.m. ET: The Steelers have made another trade. This time, they are acquiring a player, as former Washington cornerback William Jackson III will head to Pittsburgh.
Sources: The #Steelers aren’t done. They are finalizing a trade for #Commanders CB Will Jackson III, some help for their defense. pic.twitter.com/6jFL0OkXCB
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 1, 2022
— 2:14 p.m. ET: Lovie Smith was asked whether the Texans would trade Brandin Cooks after practice on Tuesday. He didn’t take kindly to the query.
“What kind of question is that?” he said, per Aaron Wilson. “Brandin wasn’t out there today. He was excused for personal reasons.”
— 2:09 p.m. ET: Josina Anderson also reports that the Claypool deal had been on the table “for at least two weeks.” As such, the Steelers wanted to get it done to eliminate the “distraction.”
Added background: From what I am hearing, and been hearing over the last week the #Steelers moved on from what they felt like was somewhat of a ‘distraction’ behind-the scenes. I’m told the Claypool move has been on the table “for at least two weeks,” per league source.
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) November 1, 2022
— 2:07 p.m. ET: The Bears getting Chase Claypool could prove to be a big blow for the Packers. CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reports that Green Bay was expected to have the best offer for Claypool before the Bears “swooped in.”
As of 8am this morning I’m told “it was looking like Green Bay was potentially going to offer the best deal for Chase (Claypool),” per league source. Obviously the #Bears have swooped in and nabbed the #Steelers WR.
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) November 1, 2022
— 2:01 p.m. ET: If an offensive tackle is traded ahead of the 2022 deadline, don’t expect it to be Isaiah Wynn. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Patriots are planning to keep him.
The #Patriots do not plan to move OT Isaiah Wynn. Seen his name out there but I don’t expect anything to happen there.
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) November 1, 2022
— 1:57 p.m. ET: The Broncos appear willing to mull trade offers for star pass rusher Bradley Chubb, but it will take a lot to get him. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that it would take a first-round pick and more for Denver to trade him.
Teams that have talked to the Broncos about Bradley Chubb believe it will take a first-round pick plus more to get Denver to move him. If the Broncos don’t get what they’re looking for, they will keep him and work to sign him long term.
— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) November 1, 2022
— 1:33 p.m. ET: It appears as though the Bears have made a big move to help Justin Fields: Field Yates reports that the Bears have traded a second-round pick to the Steelers in exchange for Claypool, this a day after they moved on from Roquan Smith.
BREAKING: The Bears are trading for Steelers WR Chase Claypool, per source.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) November 1, 2022
— 1:15 p.m. ET: Brandin Cooks is not at Texans practice on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the two sides are “exploring” trades that make sense for Cooks and the Texans. Ian Rapoport says that nothing is imminent, but calls have been made.
Leading up to the deadline, the #Texans have talked with WR Brandin Cooks about exploring a trade that makes sense for the player and team, per sources. Both know something could happen but will take at least a reasonable offer to get to the finish line
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) November 1, 2022
— 1:03 p.m. ET: An update on the Cam Akers front — Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that there is “no trade imminent” for the Rams running back. If he isn’t traded, it will be interesting to see whether the Rams keep him, as they originally intended to do, or if they decide to cut him.
— 12:37 p.m. ET: This might not be the only move the Lions make, as Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reports. So, stay tuned…
Lions may not be done trading, either. They’ve let the league know they’re willing to make deals at other positions, including DB.
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) November 1, 2022
— 12:25 p.m. ET: We have a trade. The Lions are trading tight end T.J. Hockenson to the Vikings for two draft picks, including a second-round selection in 2023.
The newest member of the #Vikings: TJ Hockenson.
A huge deal, with the #Vikings sending a 2023 2nd rounder and a 2024 fourth rounder for Hockenson, a 2023 fourth rounder and a 2024 conditional fourth rounder. pic.twitter.com/ryxNrHzGP8
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 1, 2022
— 12:07 p.m. ET: Albert Breer reported a few days ago that some NFL teams feel like a third-round pick in exchange for Chase Claypool could get a deal done. He listed the Packers as a potential suitor for Claypool amid Aaron Rodgers’ troubles connecting with his receivers.
— 12:01 p.m. ET: It’s still quiet on the trade front. Could something happen? Surely, but no moves have been completed with less than four hours left until the deadline.
— 11:32 a.m. ET: Cam Akers is eagerly awaiting the deadline to see if he will be traded. The Rams running back took to Twitter to voice his frustration with his benching over the last couple of weeks.
I miss football 😐
— Cam akers (@thereal_cam3) November 1, 2022
If it was up to me I would be
— Cam akers (@thereal_cam3) November 1, 2022
— 11:20 a.m. ET: The Chiefs are evidently looking to bolster their pass rush. They have reportedly called the Jaguars to check on the availability of Josh Allen (the edge rusher, not the quarterback).
Last year, the Chiefs traded for Melvin Ingram before the deadline. Allen would be a much bigger move, but the acquisition would prove more costly, too.
— 11:10 a.m. ET: It looks like William Jackson III’s time in Washington is over. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Commanders are expected to release him if they can’t trade him before the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.
Jackson was once a big-ticket free agent acquisition but didn’t pan out in Washington. Perhaps he could return to the Bengals, who find themselves in need of a cornerback with Chidobe Awuzie hurt. Jackson was a strong outside starter during his time in Cincinnati.
—10:55 a.m. ET: ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is now also reporting that the Rams offered two first-round picks in exchange for Brian Burns. He also includes that the Rams tried to make Cam Akers a part of their package, which was rejected.
Talked to multiple people around league who believe the #Rams indeed came w/ 2 1s in Brian Burns talks. The #Panthers are holding onto Burns because he’s top-10 pass rusher and want to keep young core. But deadline’s not over.
Side note: Rams included Cam Akers in talks w/ CAR https://t.co/3NRUhoLrDw
— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) November 1, 2022
—10:26 a.m. ET: ESPN’s John Keim reports that William Jackson III is the only player that the Commanders are realistically expecting to potentially trade. That means Antonio Gibson and Curtis Samuel are likely staying put.
— 10:17 a.m. ET: The Panthers are reportedly receiving “a lot” of interest in Brian Burns and DJ Moore ahead of the trade deadline. However, the team is not planning to trade either player, per Charlotte Sports Live’s Will Kunkel.
— 10:14 a.m. ET: The Bills are reportedly “asking around on running backs” as the trade deadline draws nearer, but “price and fit have to make sense,” per Matt Lombardo. Kareem Hunt and Nyheim Hines are two options who would make sense for Buffalo.
A team to watch today is the #Bills. I’m told Buffalo is asking around on running backs, but price and fit have to make sense. #NFL
— Matt Lombardo (@MattLombardoNFL) November 1, 2022
— 10:01 a.m. ET: Jerry Jones doesn’t believe that the Cowboys will make a move before the NFL trade deadline, but he wasn’t ready to rule it out either.
“Better chance of nothing happening than of something happening,” Jones said, per Jon Machota. “I’m standing by the track, and when the train comes by, I’m ready to hit that caboose and not let it get by me. I can grab that caboose in the next few hours.”
— 9:52 a.m. ET: Brian Burns is one of the Panthers’ best players, and it will take a lot for the team to consider moving him. Albert Breer reports that the Rams have offered two first-round picks for his services.
— 8:44 a.m. ET: PFF’s Doug Kyed reports that the Bears have called the Patriots about wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.
— 8:05 a.m. ET: As Kareem Hunt’s future remains undecided, the veteran running back is ready to embrace whatever comes for him, as he explained after Cleveland’s 32-13 win over Cincinnati on “Monday Night Football.”
“I mean, I’m down for whatever, man,” Hunt said, per NFL.com. “I’m a football player and this is a business. So I’m ready to do whatever they decide with me. That’s either go somewhere else or here, anything it don’t matter. I love the game of football.”
— Oct. 31: One veteran that doesn’t seem likely to be moved is Texans edge rusher Jerry Hughes. The 34-year-old could help a playoff-caliber team’s pass rush, as he has five sacks this season, but as Jordan Schultz of The Score reports, he wants to stay close to his family in Houston.
Several teams have inquired about DE Jerry Hughes, but the Texans will not trade him, sources tell @theScore.
Hughes is from Houston and played at TCU. He picked the #Texans because of family and has since become a team captain. He has already recorded 5 sacks this season.
— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) November 1, 2022
— Oct. 31: More on the Nyheim Hines front — ESPN’s Stephen Holder reports that “odds are good” that Hines will be traded ahead of the trade deadline.
— Oct. 31: There’s another running back on the trade market. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that teams are asking about Colts running back Nyheim Hines, who is an excellent receiver out of the backfield.
Teams have reached out to the Colts to inquire about trading for RB/WR/PR Nyheim Hines, per sources.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 1, 2022
— Oct. 31: Could the Eagles trade for Kareem Hunt? Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano says to “keep an eye” on Philadelphia as a potential suitor for Hunt. That would be a repeat of what the team did ahead of the 2017 trade deadline, when they acquired former Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl that year.
— Oct. 31: Getting Brandin Cooks out of Houston will be no easy feat. NFL reporter Dov Kleiman notes that the Texans won’t consider trading Cooks for anything less than a second-round pick. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that the Giants, Rams and Vikings are potential fits for the veteran receiver.
— Oct. 31: ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that the Giants are interested in Jerry Jeudy. However, he isn’t sure whether New York would be willing to pony up and pay the price the Broncos want for the 2020 first-round pick.
— Oct. 31: The Bears traded linebacker Roquan Smith, who requested a trade prior to the season, to the Ravens for LB A.J. Klein, a 2023 second rounder and a 2023 fifth rounder.
— Oct. 31: Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen has reportedly been targeted by several teams, per Jordan Schultz. According to Schultz, the Jaguars would ideally like to keep their star, who is in the midst of another excellent season.
— Oct. 31: For the second year in a row, the Broncos are having one of their best pass rushers coveted. According to Peter King, the Dolphins and Jets are seeking Bradley Chubb amidst the Broncos’ struggles, as an arms race below the Bills has suddenly opened in the AFC East.
— Oct. 30: The Rams are still looking to trade Cam Akers ahead of the deadline, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that if they can’t offload him, he will remain with the team.
— Oct. 30: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Texans are “open” to trading wide receiver Brandin Cooks. A trade would mark the fourth of Cooks’ career, an unusually high amount for an NFL player.
— Oct. 30: NFL Network reports that the Broncos are listening to offers on Bradley Chubb, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. However, other teams believe that Chubb is the most likely to move if Denver does make a trade.
— Oct. 30: The Bills have called the Saints about running back Alvin Kamara, per Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. The Saints were sitting at 2-5 ahead of their Week 8 tilt with the Raiders but are still in the running for the division crown in the weak NFC South.
— Oct. 30: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Browns are “willing to grant Kareem Hunt’s trade request.” NFL Network reports that he will be the top running back available on the market, but Cleveland won’t just trade him to trade him to trade him.
