Once upon a time, Alabama and LSU played a game that finished with a score of 9-6. Well, their annual meeting for this season so far hasn’t been quite as submissive to the defenses, but there are echoes of that game. No. 6 Alabama and No. 10 LSU are scoreless after a first quarter that saw one red-zone turnover, five punts and few first downs.
Alabama looked the most threatening as it drove inside the LSU 5-yard line on its opening possession, but Bryce Young’s ill-advised pass was picked off in the end zone to end the threat. Since then, it’s been a battle of the punters. Young is only 3-of-9 passing for 46 yards with the interception, while LSU’s Jayden Daniels is 6 of 10 for only 24 yards.
LSU will begin the second quarter with the ball at midfield, which seems promising but is also the area of the field all its possessions have ended so far.
