Monday’s preview
Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas have already met this month with the Serbian prevailing in three sets in the Paris Masters semi-finals and there could be a repeat of that result in the Red Group of the ATP Tour Finals in Turin.
After ousting Tsitsipas 6-2 3-6 7-6 this month, Djokovic went on to lose to improving Holger Rune in the final in France but has nonetheless looked pretty sharp on the indoor hard courts.
Djokovic’s schedule has been relatively light since he triumphed at Wimbledon but he has shown his class on hard courts with titles in Tel Aviv and Astana.
The Serb has won nine of the last 11 matches between the players, including each of their last four hard-court meetings, and should start his ATP Tour Finals campaign with a win over the Greek.
But Tsitsipas is no pushover, having made the final of the Stockholm Open in October, and to squeeze more value out of the encounter, it’s worth backing Djokovic to win 2-1.
Earlier on Monday, compatriots Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev are set to lock horns in the other match in the Red Group and it could be the more one-sided of the two contests.
Medvedev was runner-up to Alexander Zverev in last year’s ATP Finals, having won all three of his matches in the Red Group, and his opponent has gone off the boil a bit recently.
Rublev was dumped out in the round of 16 in the Gijon Open and Vienna Open, an event Medvedev went on to win last month.
The 26-year-old from Moscow did not drop a set until the final against Denis Shapovalov in that event and looks a solid bet to win in straight sets on Monday.
