DBA vs JK: Jaffna Kings have made a stellar start to their season in the Lanka Premier League 2022. The Kings notched their second consecutive win after beating Dambulla Giants by 9 wickets on Wednesday.
A combined effort with the ball helped them restrict Dambulla Giants to just 121 runs in the 20 overs. Jordan Cox played a brilliant knock of 43 runs in 22 deliveries, including 3 fours and 4 sixes.
He gave the team a sensational start as the Giants had scored 63 runs in just 7.3 overs. However, Vijayskanth sent Cox back to the hut on the next ball and it saw the batting side’s downfall from there on.
In the next over, Zaman Khan sent Daniel (19) back, while James Fuller denied Sikandar Raza (5) play a big knock either. Skipper Shanaka (6 off 4) too had a forgettable outing with the bat as the Giants failed to make a giant performance with the bat.
Theekshana, Viyaskanth’s impactful deliveries steal the show
As many as 6 batters got out on single-digit scores as Dambulla Giants could only muster 121 in 20 overs. M Theekshana was the pick of the bowlers for the Kings as he claimed 3 for 20 in 4 overs. However, it was Viyaskanth who made the real impact with his figures of 3 for 20.
In reply, Jaffna Kings took only 15.4 overs to chase down the target. S Samarawickrama played an unbeaten knock of 62 runs in just 44 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six.
Avishka Fernando also made a valuable contribution of 51 runs in 49 balls. There couldn’t be a better win than this for Jaffna Kings and they would be roaring with confidence at the moment.
