By Chris Williams: Errol Spence Jr said on Friday that he’s not sure he’ll be fighting Terence Crawford in 2023. Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) says he’s not sure who he’s fighting, including Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman.
As for who Spence will be fighting in 2023, he says he’s going to “weigh” his options before deciding.
Given Crawford’s rumored incredibly low pay-per-view numbers for his fight last Saturday night against David Avanesyan, it’s safe to say that he’s not going to be one of Spence’s options for next year.
Spence could move up to 154 next year because he says it’s becoming harder for him to make the 147-lb limit. If he moves up to junior middleweight, he’ll leave behind Crawford, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, and Thurman.
“I didn’t see it, but I seen the highlights. He looked good. Terence always look good. It was nasty,” said Errol Spence Jr to Fight Hub TV about Terence Crawford’s win over David Avanesyan last Saturday night on BLK Prime.
“I got to weigh my options; I got to see which new car I’m going to get,” said Spence when asked if he’ll fight Crawford in 2023. “A new car. I can’t win for losing,” said Errol in making a joke about his recent car accident.
“Next year, anything can happen. I don’t know. I’m not going to worry about it too much. If it happens, it happens. I don’t know, but I never say I’m not fighting nobody. I’ll fight whoever,” said Spence when asked who his next legacy fight is.
“I don’t know; we got to see. I’m getting older, man,” said Errol when asked how likely it’ll be that he moves up to 154 in 2023. “It’s getting harder to make 147. It’s the same as it was a long time ago,” said Spence when asked how difficult it is for him to make 147.
“It’ll be a war,” said Errol about Eimantas vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr in their WBA eliminator to pick a mandatory for him.
“He can fight,” said Spence about his IBF mandatory Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. “I don’t know what the reward is [to fight Boots Ennis]. Nobody gave me word about what the reward is.
“I wasn’t using a firestick. Terence has never been to my house. He don’t know what I got. I ain’t got no firestick,” said Spence when told that Crawford thinks he uses a firestick.
