Oleksandr Usyk Taunts Tyson Fury: “Where Are You, Belly?”

    January 10, 2023No Comments

By Jack Tiernan: A trim & in shape-looking Oleksandr Usyk took to social media to taunt the chubby WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to enquire where he’s at.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren is upbeat about the chances of the fight getting made for March. If you’re Fury, this would be a good time for him to start reducing weight and working on his cardio.

In Fury’s last two fights against Derek Chisora & Dillian Whyte, his body has resembled his 58-year-old dad John Fury, and that’s obviously not good with Tyson about to face the highly mobile, athletic Usyk.

IBF, WBA & WBC champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) posted a photo of himself next to a pool, and he looks like he’s in fighting shape.  As for Fury, one can only guess how much weight he’s still carrying around. He’s got these ugly saddlebags that seem to grow larger every year and are seemingly resistant to efforts at weight loss.

The increasing midsection weight has slowed Fury down in the last three years, reducing his mobility and causing him to turn into a punch & grab type of heavyweight.

“We’re looking at March, and everybody is really up for getting this done, and we’re positive it will get done. I genuinely believe it’s going to happen,” said Frank Warren to talkSPORT Boxing about the Fury vs. Usyk fight.

“He loves being against it, and he rises to the occasion. He’s a very good fighter, there’s no doubt about it, Usyk, but I just think Tyson is the dominant heavyweight of this generation.”

It’s hard to say that Fury is the “dominant heavyweight of this generation,” given that his only solid wins during the last eight years were foul-plagued fights against Deontay Wilder. Apart from Fury’s wins over Wilder, he’s beaten a handful of mediocre heavyweights.

For Fury to be the “dominant heavyweight” of this era, he needs better wins than what he has on his very average resume.

    Fury’s wins since 2015:

    • Deontay Wilder x 2
    • Derek Chisora
    • Dillian Whyte
    • Otto Wallin
    • Tom Schwarz
    • Francisco Pianeta
    • Sefer Seferi
    • Wladimir Klitschko – 39-years-old
    • Christian Hammer

That bunch is too weak to say that Fury is the most “dominant” heavyweight of this era.

For Fury to be called the most “dominant” fighter of this era, he would have needed to beat these guys:

    • Anthony Joshua
    • Andy Ruiz Jr
    • Jared Anderson
    • Joe Joyce
    • Filip Hrgovic
    • Daniel Dubois
    • Arslanbek Makhmudov
    • Frank Sanchez
    • Luis Ortiz
