Two of the biggest corporates in India – the Adani Group and Reliance Industries are set to face off against each other on a cricket field for the first time when their teams Gulf Giants and MI Emirates step on the ground at the DP World International League T20 on Friday, 27 January 2023.
The Reliance Industries have a strong footprint in the world of franchise cricket with their Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians winning the most number of IPL titles (five). Meanwhile, the Adani Group, who have holdings in the kabaddi and kho kho leagues in India, made their first foray into cricket through the Gulf Giants at the DP World ILT20, which is being played across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah from 13 January through to 12 February 2023.
The Gulf Giants have begun the tournament in splendid fashion. Their captain James Vince has led from the front and he has received excellent support from aggressive batter Shimron Hetmyer, who has chipped in with some crucial runs.
Meanwhile, Chris Jordan and David Wiese have been leading the Giants’ attack with the ball. Jordan and Wiese are among the top wicket-takers in the tournament.
The MI Emirates have also been in spectacular form. Their captain Kieron Pollard has been the team’s best batter, while Andre Fletcher and Muhammad Waseem have contributed with some superlative innings in the competition.
And in the bowling department, speedster Dwayne Bravo and leg-spinner Imran Tahir have taken the responsibility of picking up the required wickets for the MI Emirates.
The match between Gulf Giants and MI Emirates certainly proves to be a mouth-watering clash and the business rivalry between the two families, who are among the richest in the world, spices up the contest even more. The two sides will be up against each other at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday, 27 January 2023 from 6 pm GST (7:30 pm IST) onwards.
