The Uvalde Lobos will complete their regular-season soccer schedule Tuesday when they host the San Antonio Fox Tech Lady Buffaloes in District 27-4A competition.
Kick-off time is 7 p.m. at the Uvalde High School soccer field.
The Lobos will celebrate Seniors’ Night as the UHS seniors on the team will be honored during special ceremonies prior to the start of the match.
Coach Keith Pendleton’s Lobos, 12-0 in district and 15-2-1 for the season, have locked up their second consecutive district title.
They were scheduled to play the Poteet Aggies in district action last Friday.
Results from that match will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.
Last Tuesday night, the Lobos pounded out a 9-1 victory over the La Vernia Bears to lock up the district championship.
The Lobos got off to a 3-0 lead as Abby Kone scored the first two goals, while Andrea Perez scored off an assist from Alexis Silva. La Vernia’s lone goal came at the 8:45 mark of the first half.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Abby Kone dribbled the ball for the length of the field, maneuvered her way past several would-be defenders, and got off a laser shot from 15 yards out for a goal.
About four minutes later, Andrea Perez scored on a penalty kick to put the Lobos up 5-1.
The Uvalde girls kept up their offensive assault as they dominated control of the ball and played good defense throughout the remainder of the match.
“Our possession of the ball and ball movement was superb and nice to see,” said Coach Pendleton. “It was a terrific night for our girls. I was pleased by their overall play against La Vernia.”
Abby Kone scored on a short-range shot to extend Uvalde’s lead to 6-1.
At the 18:54 mark, Alexis Silva scored off of an assist from Kasidy Hernandez.
Later, Andrea scored on a shot from 30 yards out and Abby Kone scored on a long shot to top off the scoring for the Lobos.
Besides their nine goals, the Lobos missed on dozens of other scoring attempts.
Some of the shot went just wide of the mark, while one shot hit the top of the goal and bounced away.
Prior to their win over La Vernia, the Lobos recorded a 3-0 victory over the Pleasanton Eagles.
Pleasanton is the runner-up team in the district, while La Vernia is in third place.
Following action Tuesday, the Lobos will have a warm-up match for the playoffs one week from tomorrow whey they face the Medina Valley Lady Panthers at Castroville.
The Medina Valley girls, 13-7-3 for the season, are the runner-up team in District 28-5A.
They will finish second behind Southwest in their district race.
The Lobos will face either the Palacios Sharks or the Yoakum Bulldogs in bi-district play at a date, time, and location that has yet to be finalized.
March 24 is the tentative date for the match.
Palacios and Yoakum split their District 28-4A matches, and they are locked in a battle for the fourth-place spot in the district race.
They may need a playoff match to determine the fourth-place finisher.
