ALPENA–Alpena Public Schools announced Wednesday the hiring of Tate Skiba as the new boys golf coach at Alpena High School.
“Our program has been trending in the right direction for several years, and I am excited to help take it to the next level. Golf is one of my deepest passions, and there is nothing better than seeing the kids push themselves to greater and greater improvement,” Skiba said in a press release.
Skiba, who has coached Alpena’s girls golf team for three seasons, succeeds Eric Mitchell in the position. Skiba, an Alpena High graduate, is a former member of the Wildcats boys golf team.
“Coach Skiba has done a great job of building our girls golf program and I have no doubts that he will do the same for our boys golf program” Alpena Athletic Director Jon Studley said. “Coach Skiba is a great leader and he is always trying to find ways to make everyone a better teammate and golfer. We are thrilled to have him take over our boys golf program.”
