The BNP Paribas Open 2022 is wrapping up today with its final two matches. Businesses within Tennis Paradise are making the most of the final few hours of sales with some of them seeing much bigger sales than at last year’s October tournament.
During last year’s BNP Paribas Open, Piero’s Pizzavino only had enough workers to open their smaller to-go location at Stadium 1. But this year, they were able to re-open their bigger location at Stadium 2 which seats125 people.
“We tripled [sales]. Easily tripled it with the outside dining being able to have this restaurant open,” said Piero’s Pizzavino general manager Lea Tubberville. “We definitely did amazing in October but we did really well in March. Most of my staff came back.”
The last time Piero’s Pizzavino was at its bigger location within the Indian Wells Tennis Garden back in 2019.
“Seeing people we haven’t seen in three years and be able to see them again, customers that have come back that didn’t just eat here one or two nights, they came back the whole time that they were here every single night,” said Tubberville. “It’s great to be back and know that we can come back.”
Local restaurant Fresh Agave at Stadium 2 also saw surging sales within these past two weeks of the tournament.
“I feel like it’s very different from October, different crowds, different kinds of people,” said Fresh Agave system manager Yuriel Gonzalez. “This march crowd is people that have been here for years.”
They wanted to hit 30% more sales than last October. So far, he said their sales showed they were nearing their goal.
“Labor was a big issue coming into it so that’s why we try to scale down our menu to try to alleviate some of that pressure from our kitchen staff,” said Gonzalez. “We’re still getting people that have never heard of us coming in through these doors experiencing this. So hopefully that’ll get them through our doors at our main restaurant and continue that trend going forward.”
