On the eve of MCC Women’s Day, on April 22, when Middlesex Women handed a crushing defeat to hosts MCC, the Club invited former and current women players into the Middlesex Room for the unveiling of a Wall of Fame. This Wall of Fame highlights the accomplishments of some of Middlesex’s most celebrated women cricketers. It is indeed a wonderful gesture to acknowledge the effort of former women cricketers who gave their blood and sweat to the sport that they loved.
On the Wall of Fame, there are names and career dates of nine Middlesex Women players who had impressive performances playing for the Club. To arrive at the nine players, statistics since 1980 were used. 1980 was selected as the base year since it was during that period the Middlesex Women first participated in the County Championship.
These nine players came to Lord’s for the unveiling ceremony of the Wall of Fame. The players had a great time as they met their former teammates and reminisced their fond memories. Middlesex chairman Mike O’Farrell was also present at the unveiling ceremony.
The nine players to make the Wall of Fame are:
1. Rosamund Heggs (1980 to 1995): She played as a right-handed batter and a right-arm-off spinner. She was a part of the England squad that played the World Cup in 1973 and 1978.
2. Lia Nye (1988 to 1997):
3. Carole Cumino (1989 to 2005): She played as a wicket-keeper for Middlesex.
4. Keely Juster (1992 to 2007): Born on September 7, 1968 in Middlesex, she is the former captain of the Club. An all-rounder by proficiency, she has 50 wickets and 900 runs to her name. She played as a right handed batter and a right arm slow bowler.
5. Sarah Bartlett (1999 to 2011): Born on December 7, 1981 in London, she played as a right arm seamer and right handed batter for Middlesex.
6. Jennifer Dunn (2009 to 2011): Born on May 7, 1987 in Cheshire, she played as a left handed batter for Middlesex.
7. Helena Stolle (2005 to 2014): Born on September 2, 1990 in Hertfordshire, she played as a right handed batter for Middlesex. She featured in one day as well as T20 formats for the Club.
8. Danielle Warren (2002 to 2015): Born on April 14, 1982 in Buckinghamshire, she played as a xx for Middlesex.
9. Beth Morgan (1996 to 2019): Born on September 27, 1981 in Middlesex, she played as a right handed batter and a right arm seamer. She also represented England in seven Tests, 72 ODIs and 28 T20Is.
At the unveiling ceremony of the Middlesex Women’s Wall of Fame, Kari Carswell, Head of Women’s Cricket for Middlesex, said, “We are really proud of the achievements of these nine players, who have all played such an important role in Middlesex Women’s history. The installation of the Women’s Wall of Fame alongside the Men’s, in the Middlesex Room, is a fitting way to acknowledge their contributions to our success over the duration of their careers. We look forward to our current players aspiring to get their names up on the honours wall and it gives all players from future generations something to aim for in their careers.”
