Kirstie Bavington crowned European champion with points win in Wolverhampton
Kirstie Bavington (6-2-2, 2KOs) defeated title contender Timea Belik (5-5, 2KOs) via unanimous decision to claim the vacant European welterweight title on a BCB Promotions show at The Hangar in Wolverhampton on Friday, May 6.
The Hungarian in the away corner had previously experienced two prior title fights, which both went the full 10-rounds distance, but the lesser experienced ‘Bavvo’ stepped up the occasion to win her first title as a pro.
The three ringside judges scored the contest 100-90, 99-91, 99-92 to Bavington. The 29-year-old from Pensnett has now won three in a row.
There were also points win on the same card for former Midlands Area welterweight champ Conah Walker (11-1-1, 3KOs); southpaw light-heavy Ollie Cooper (4-0), 21 from Cannock, Staffordshire; ‘The Kundalani King’ Jermaine Edwards (4-0, 1KO); middleweight Alex ‘Razor’ Round (3-0); and welterweight Shannon Willey (2-0), 27 from Exeter.
