Third seed Paula Badosa managed to avoid the upset bug that has seen five of the top 8 women’s seeds crash out of the women’s singles draw at Roland-Garros but needed three sets to advance on Thursday.
Playing the first match on Court Suzanne Lenglen, Badosa overcame a stiff challenge from young Slovenian Kaja Juvan before winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win in two hours and 17 minutes.
The Spaniard will next meet Veronika Kudermetova, the No 29 seed, for a spot in the round of 16.
