Quin Snyder has enjoyed a solid spell in charge of the Utah Jazz as they have become one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Despite the rise of three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, and star guard, Donovan Mitchell, Utah have been unable to reach the Conference Finals, let alone the NBA Finals under Snyder’s stewardship.
Their 2021/22 post-season was a very disappointing one as they lost against the Dallas Mavericks in six games in the first round.
As a result of their playoff shortcomings this season, there is a belief that something needs to change in the Beehive State. Mitchell and Gobert don’t seem to have the right chemistry to thrive in the NBA, despite their incredible ability, respectively.
Despite their issues with the players, there could perhaps be a coaching change this off-season, with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon reporting that Snyder’s Jazz future is ‘unclear’.
Snyder’s current contract expires in two years, including his option for 23/24, and the front office has offered him a two-year extension.
He has a 372-264 record in eight seasons with the Jazz and has the third-longest tenure as a head coach in the league, tied with Golden State Warriors’ Steve Kerr.
Snyder could stay this season and leave next summer, sign a new deal, or simply walk before next season kicks off. Either way, this is an interesting situation to keep an eye on.
