QUEENS — The Eagles boys tennis team walked into the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with an undefeated streak and walked out capping an amazing season despite a 4-3 loss to Commack on Friday, June 10.
The Eagles collection of victories amassed to 18 before losing to the Long Island high school that boasts an enrollment of 2,113 students.
The team sent a message of gratitude to family and school alumni who traveled from the area to cheer on the Eagles in New York City.
“Lots to be proud of this year,” the team stated from its Twitter account. “Big thanks to the parents and alumni that made the trip today. Your support and dedication has been appreciated.”
The squad bested a previously undefeated Fayette-Manlius in the Division I regional championship to qualify for the state tournament. Prior to that, the Eagles had earned its fourth consecutive Section II championship with a win over Shaker.
