JAIPUR: The disputed district cricket associations (DCAs) of Nagaur, Alwar and Sriganganagar have been disaffiliated by the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The decision was taken during the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) here on Monday.
“The three districts have been disaffiliated because they have failed to comply with the guidelines and formalities laid by the BCCI and RCA. We had given them ample time, but they failed to turn up with what was asked from them. Hence we had to take the tough call,” said RCA president Vaibhav Gehlot.
The three DCAs have been in the past related to tainted former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, the reason why the apex cricket body had banned RCA for five years between 2014 and 2019.
“The decision has been taken in favour of cricket and the players. Everyone had to suffer in those five years and we cannot let anything similar happen again. If the three DCAs feel they have been wronged, they can go to court. Thirty DCAs were on the same page regarding the decision,” added RCA deputy president Amin Pathan.
The move by the RCA is being looked at as a ‘timely’ step by the current administration with eyes fixed on the elections which will be held in October this year.
It was also decided in the meeting to increase the submission money of the DCAs. “To strengthen the infrastructure, submission money for each district has been increased to Rs 5 lakh per year,” added the RCA president.
A state-level committee will also be formed to look into investments companies wish to make in various districts under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
He also said that RCA is awaiting BCCI’s approval on organising Rajasthan Premier League, which will be held on the lines of Tamil Nadu Premier League, Karnataka Premier League and other similar T20 leagues being held by various state cricket associations.
Talking about the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur, the president said that all the major work has been done and only finishing touches are left to be done. “We have reached the stage of signing the MoU with the Jodhpur Development Authority (JoDA). The stadium work is almost ready and only a week’s work is left,” he added.
