By Adam Baskin: Ryan Garcia has come out and bravely accepted Floyd Mayweather’s conditions for a fight between him and superstar Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to take place at 135 rather than 140.
Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) said on Twitter on Friday that fight Gervonta at “Any weight, anytime, any place.”
In what appeared to be an example of Ryan being a troll, he told the 45-year-old Mayweather Jr, who has been retired since 2017, “You can get it too if you want.”
That last remark by the the23-year-old Ryan made him appear greedy for money because why else would he be calling out the old, faded superstar Mayweather if he weren’t desperate for a payday on top of the one he’s already going to get fighting Tank Davis?
We’ll soon see if the Tank Davis vs. Ryan fight will take place this year because there’s a lot that must be done still in terms of the negotiations for it to be a reality.
Last Saturday night, Ryan defeated old veteran Javier Fortuna by a sixth-round knockout. In his fight before that, Kingry defeated Emmanuel Tagoe, another older fighter.

“The lightweight division is like the talent that was around in the 1980s, but what’s not reminiscent is they’re not fighting each other,” said Teddy Atlas to The Fight.
“He’s [Ryan Garcia] smart to get out of there [140] division, and if they follow him, they’ll follow at their own peril, their own risk, and disadvantage because he does have that skeleton. He will have the edge of being the bigger guy, and he’s smart.
“Don’t expect to see any of these fights that we would chomp at the bits to see, no matter what he says right now, because De La Hoya already lost Canelo. All he’s got is this guy [Ryan Garcia]. He’s hanging on by a string.
“That’s all he’s got. He’s not going to risk his new golden goose [Ryan]. He’s not going to risk him. He’s going to make money fighting guys that are mirages, guys like Fortuna.
“He’s going to fight guys with good records. Canelo did it. He did it with the [Caleb] Plants and the BJ Saunders, and the guys from Europe, all those guys. I’m not knocking those guys, they’re okay, but they weren’t what they were purported to be, what they were built up to be.
“They built up a mirage with their records and made you think, ‘Oh yeah, we’re going to get a real fight. That’s what they’re doing, and they’re doing. Listen, it’s smart; it’s business. They’re doing that right now with [Ryan] Garcia, where they’re going to build up Fortuna and all these other guys. ‘Look, they got a good record, look, they were a former champ.’
“Yeah, look as he goes through them one after another, and he just builds up his record until finally, it’s big enough, they’ll fight somebody. That’s the track they’re [Team Ryan Garcia] going to take, and that’s the track they’re on,” said Atlas.
