After playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the Summer League, Shareef O’Neal, the son of Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, is signing a six-figure contract with the NBA G League Ignite, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
Points this season
22-year-old O’Neal had an unproductive college career. At first, he committed to Arizona but then decided to join UCLA and sat out his first year with a heart condition that required surgery.
Then he left UCLA midway through his second season and transferred to LSU, his father’s alma mater, where he missed nearly a year of playing time across two seasons because of a foot injury.
In 14 appearances as a junior last season, O’Neal averaged just 2.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game.
