BOSTON – The Boston Bruins announced today, July 28, that the organization is now accepting new applicants for the 2022-23 Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program.
This is the second year of the Bruins’ Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program, which launched in September, 2021. The program aims to mentor and elevate individuals from underrepresented backgrounds and provide a basis for careers in scouting or the hockey industry.
Each participant will be partnered with a mentor in the Bruins’ Hockey Operations Department from September, 2022, to May, 2023. Participants will gain knowledge by breaking down film, participating in monthly virtual study sessions and gathering for group workshops with fellow participants in the program. By providing hands-on experience, mentorship and networking opportunities, the program will help empower participants and diversify the pool of candidates for future scouting and hockey operations positions.
Last year’s program participants included Danielle Marmer, who was subsequently hired by the Bruins in July, 2022, as Player Development and Scouting Assistant. In her role, Marmer works directly with Player Development Coordinator Adam McQuaid to help develop prospects throughout the entire Bruins system.
“The Boston Bruins are extremely proud to continue the Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program for this upcoming season,” said Bruins President Cam Neely. “Evan Gold, Jeremy Rogalski, and the entire Hockey Operations group helped make the inaugural year of this program a major success, highlighted by the recent addition of Danielle Marmer to our player development staff. We are excited to welcome a new group of applicants to the program and begin this process once again.”
“With the creation of this mentorship program, we set out to encourage participation and help to create future leaders in the sport of hockey from more diverse backgrounds, and we are excited to continue that mission in the 2022-23 season,” said Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney. “Last year’s program proved to be not only beneficial to all of its participants, but equally beneficial to our Hockey Operations staff and the Bruins organization. We can’t wait to meet, teach and learn from those that will make up the next wave of the hockey scouting community.”
“The Bruins Diversity and Inclusion Scouting Mentorship Program is helping to usher a new wave of top talent into hockey’s front office,” said Kim Davis, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Social Impact, Growth, and Legislative Affairs. “The diversification of our workforce is leading to greater creativity, better decision-making and stronger team performance and we are proud of the Bruins’ hockey operations department for their vision and leadership with this groundbreaking initiative.”
