On Friday, BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran asked Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani to respond in writing to conflict of interest allegations levelled against her by September 2.
Former Supreme Court judge Saran, who took over as BCCI ethics and ombudsman from D K Jain, served Ambani with a notice after receiving a complaint from former MPCA member Sanjeev Gupta.
Gupta claimed that the owner of the Mumbai Indians has a conflict of interest because she is also a director at Reliance Industries, which recently purchased IPL digital rights for Rs 23,758 crore through subsidiary Viacom 18.
Mumbai Indians Did Not Have The Best Of Seasons This Year
It is submitted that the RIL website states that Viacom 18 is a subsidiary company of RIL,” Gupta wrote in his complaint.
“You are hereby informed that a complaint has been received by the Ethics Officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India under rule 39(b) of the rules and regulations of BCCI, regarding certain acts, allegedly constituting “conflict of interest” on your part. You are directed to file your written response to the accompanying complaint on or before 2-9-2022″, the letter further read.
As far as the IPL is concerned, MI had their worst ever season this year as they finished in the bottom half of the table. They never got going in the first half of the season and lost all of their 8 games. For the next season, they hope to get things on track.
As for the broadcasting rights Star India had retained TV rights after an intense 2-way battle between Disney and Sony. Sony had TV rights for the first 10 years of the tournament.
