COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Defending Mountain West Champion New Mexico has been selected as the preseason favorite to capture the 2022 MW Women’s Soccer title as voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches.
The Lobos garnered 121 points and 11 first-place votes, earning the top spot in the preseason coaches poll. Last season, New Mexico won its second-straight regular-season title and went on to claim its second MW tournament title in program history. With the Conference tournament championship, UNM made its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance.
San Diego State was selected to finish the upcoming season in second place with 100 points, while Boise State was picked third with 99 points and the remaining first-place vote. Fresno State was selected to finish in fourth place with 96 points and Utah State in fifth with 82 points. UNLV tallied 63 points and was voted sixth.
Colorado State was next in seventh with 57 points, San José State in eighth with 48 points, Nevada and Wyoming tied for ninth with 34 points, Colorado College in 11th with 32 points and Air Force in 12th with 26 points.
The 2022 season kicks off on Thursday, August 18.
