SEDALIA, Mo. – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team continued its dream start to the season with a 4-0 win at State Fair Community College on Saturday, tying the program record for wins in a season.
The Hawks have won seven games just twice in a single season prior to this year, doing so in 2017 and 2021.
Saturday’s dominating win was the fourth shutout of the season for the Hawks defense.
“Defensively we know to defend first above everything else,” Northeast Head Coach Adam Potter said. “Then attack. It has been awesome to see guys step up into big roles as we lost two starters early in the game today. That’s a sign of a good team.”
England natives Jeevan Purewal and Alfie Pendlebury each scored a pair of goals to lead the Hawks’ attack. Purewal also added an assist on top of his brace. Chilean Tomas Espinoza notched a pair of assists, while Colorado native Carlos Jimenez added an assist of his own.
“Key is simple,” Potter said. “Stay composed and remember what it means to be a Hawk. We know we are about to walk into another battle in another hostile environment.”
The Hawks will finish their road trip against John Wood Community College at 11 a.m. Monday in Quincy, Illinois.
