MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women’s tennis team was represented in Cancun, Mexico for the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s 15K Tournament August 22-28.
Camila Romero, a fifth-year senior out of England, and Alisha Reayer, a fifth-year senior out of Ecuador, were in the duos tournament where they won the opening round of 16 by a score of 6-2, 6-1 against United States duo Gianni Gatti and Versace Gatti. The round of 8 put them against another set from the US; Romero and Reayer won 6-3, 6-4 to enter the third round
In the semi-final round, Romero and Reayer would lose the first set 6-2. The duo was able to win the second set by a score of 6-4. The Tiger duo was able to battle it out to win the third set 11-9.
The Championship Round belonged to Romero and Reayer. They won 6-3, 7-6 to win the ITF Women’s 15K Tournament in Mexico
“It is great to see Camila and Alisha succeed at this level,” said head women’s tennis coach Hayden Perez. “There are some proud coaches back here in Memphis. Go Tigers!”
