TAMPA (September 10, 2022) – The 2022-23 University of South Florida women’s golf season opens on Monday at the Green Wave Fall Classic hosted by Tulane.
The Bulls are coming off a 2021-22 campaign that saw multiple team and individual records broken. Last year, South Florida set a new program record for team scoring in the season-opening USA Intercollegiate with a final tally of 852. USF shot a record-breaking 280 in the opening round of that event, which was later broken again with a 279 at the Evie Odom Invitational. In the spring portion of the season, the Bulls set a program record versus par with a 279 (-9) in the final round of the FAU Paradise Invitational.
Head coach Erika Brennan (sixth season) has announced the following lineup for USF at the Green Wave Fall Classic: Juliana Camargo, Lauren Heinlein, Melanie Green, Leonor Medeiros and Alizee Vidal.
“We can’t wait to open the season and see what this team is capable of,” Brennan said. “They’ve shown tremendous focus at practices and qualifying has gone well, so we’re eager to watch them put it all together in New Orleans. The dynamic is so strong this year and there is a renewed energy around the concept of ‘team’ even though golf is an individual sport. Coach Stevens and I are pumped to get after it alongside them.”
Green had a record-breaking season as a sophomore in 2021-22 which saw her qualify for the NCAA Tallahassee Regional to close the year, as well as qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Women’s Amateur over the summer. Last year, Green set program records for scoring average (71.97), birdies (111) and rounds of par or better (19).
Camargo (76.35 scoring average) and Medeiros (75.73) each had strong showings during their freshman campaign in 2021-22. Heinlein is a fifth-year senior, and Ocala native, who transferred to USF this season from Kansas. Vidal is a transfer from Kennesaw State where she won the ASUN Tournament individual championship last year and played alongside Green at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
The Bulls will be joined at the Green Wave Fall Classic by Tulane, Nebraska, LSU, Tulsa, Seattle, Central Arkansas, Sam Houston, Mercer, Incarnate Word, Chattanooga, Little Rock, Northern Colorado and UNC Asheville.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start both days.
