The late Dick Enberg’s legacy of promoting education continues to live on in Armada.
The Armada Education Foundation hosted its annual fundraising event, the Dick Enberg Memorial Golf Classic, on July 31 at Timberwood Golf Club in Ray Township. A donated vacation package at a private home in the Harbor Springs area was the major prize for this year’s raffle.
More than $22,000 was raised at this year’s event.
“Community support was again the key to this annual golf outing’s success,” said Linda Lyons, executive director of the AEF.
Proceeds from the golf outing will support grant requests from teachers at Armada Area Schools, which will provide students in their classrooms with enhanced educational opportunities.
The AEF Board of Trustees has allocated $30,000 for the 2022-2023 school year. Grant recipients and award amounts will be determined at the AEF Board of Trustees meeting in December.
Enberg, a nationally renowned sportscaster and Armada alumnus, died in 2017.
On behalf of the AEF Board of Trustees, Lyons expressed “sincere appreciation to Obry Brick and Landscape, our double eagle sponsor for past four years, and to the many other sponsors, prize donors, golfers and volunteers who made this year’s event a success.”
Plans are already in process for next year’s Dick Enberg Memorial Golf Classic, which will take place July 30, 2023, at Timberwood Golf Club.
