CARY, N.C. — The doubles pair of Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller went 3-0 to win the E-F Doubles Flight as the University of Michigan women’s tennis team wrapped up action at the 2022 Fall Ranked Spotlight on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 25). The tournament was held at NC State’s Isenhour Tennis Center and the Cary Tennis Park.
Brown, Miller, Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones represented Michigan at the high-quality event, with each Wolverine playing five singles matches and teaming up for three doubles matches.
On the doubles court, Brown and Miller compiled a 3-0 record en route to winning the E-F Doubles Flight championship. On the opening night of doubles action (Thursday, Sept. 22), the U-M duo won a pair of 6-3 matches for a 2-0 record. Brown and Miller knocked off Gianna Pielet and Jeanette Mireles of Texas A&M 7-5 on the final day to clinch the title.
Jones and Fliegner went 1-2 on the doubles court in their first action together.
Brown and Miller competed in the singles A-1 draw, which featured 32 ranked players. After dropping her first three matches, Miller completed the weekend on a two-match winning streak that featured a three-set win over No. 27-ranked Rebeka Mertena of Tennessee.
Brown grabbed one win on the weekend, getting a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 94-ranked Elza Tomase.
Fliegner and Jones competed in the singles A-2 draw, with both Wolverines alternating between wins and losses for a pair of 3-2 records. Jones dropped a heartbreaking 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6) match to North Carolina’s Anika Yarlagadda in the second round of the main draw to head to consolation action. Jones, who made her collegiate debut this weekend, went 2-1 in consolation play after gritting out a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (6) win over Oklahoma’s Julia Garcia Ruiz on the final day of competition.
Fliegner also won her first singles match before falling in the second round of the main draw. She followed the same script as Jones, going 2-1 in consolation play with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) win over Princeton’s Zoe Howard on the final day of competition.
Michigan continues fall action next weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) at the MSU Invite in East Lansing.
