The North Texas men’s golf team gets back to competition on Sunday with its annual trip south through the Metroplex to play in SMU’s Trinity Forest event, in what will be the team’s only local event this season.
THE EVENT: Trinity Forest Golf Club will play at 7,372 yards, and will be a par-72 course for the tournament. The three-day event begins Sunday and will conclude on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m., each day.
THE FIELD: There are 13 teams participating in the tournament: Baylor, Furman, Houston, Little Rock, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Marymount, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico, North Texas, Sam Houston, SMU, SMU-B and Wichita State.
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Tucker Allen, Vicente Marzilio, Lenny Bergsson, Nikhil Gopal and Cody Winkler.
RESULTS: Live results will be posted on GolfStat.com. Full recaps from each day of competition will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each round.
WINNING HISTORY: The Mean Green have a winning history at the event, as former standout Thomas Rosenmueller won the individual title in 2018 at 13-under par with all three rounds in the 60s.
STRACKE SAYS: “Trinity Forest is a course we have had some top finishes over the years. I know the guys enjoy playing in this tournament, and I’m looking forward to a breakout performance this week. It would be great to have a lot loud fans out at Trinity Forest cheering on the team.”
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature eight international players this year. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Nikhil Gopal (South Africa), Zak Karkaletsos (Spain), Vicente Marzilio (Argentina), Diego Prone (Argentina), Simon Roessler (Chile), Alvaro Roldos (Spain) and Philippe Thorin (Ecuador) round out the international players.
UP NEXT: North Texas will wrap up its fall schedule at the Little Rock Invitational on Oct. 17-18 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
