Reilly Opelka has no intention of putting an end to his battle against the ATP. The US tennis player is known for several tough outings against the men’s tennis organization, actually attacking it on several fronts: from the corrupt system to conflicts of interest, which, according to the American, do not benefit the world of sport.
One of the issues dear to the 37th tennis player in the world in this sense is the question of prize money, in particular how much it has dropped over the years. With reference to the last question, Opelka has decided to launch a new attack against the ATP: this time the Tokyo tournament ends up in the middle.
Triumphing in the Japanese capital is Taylor Fritz, winning in the final against Frances Tiafoe in two sets. Just referring to the final where the protagonists were his compatriots, the American number five reiterated a clear message on the gains deriving from this competition.
The attack on social media
Opelka attacked: “So let me get it right. My boys are fighting today in the final in Tokyo in front of a full stadium, one of the biggest events for the ATP and are they playing for LESS MONEY than the boys of 2018?!
Systematic suppression of player compensation is real. You can say whatever you want about the last 4 years, but sponsorships, data, broadcasts, gambling revenues have all increased, plus the penalty values are skyrocketing.
And it is beyond disproportionate to the player’s compensation.” If his words leave no interpretation, his speech is not limited to two tweets, as the winner of the Houston tournament has given rise to a clash with fans.
There were several criticisms: who explained that there was no difference from the total prize money, but only in the redistribution; who, on the other hand, has pointed out that he has not made himself the executioner of this difference in relation to women’s tennis; who points out to him simply to get better information.

So let me get this straight. My boys battle it out today in the final of Tokyo in front of a packed house, one of the biggest events on @atptour and they are playing for LESS $ than the guys in 2018?!
