Any success that quarterback Justin Fields and the Bears’ passing offense found in the second half in Minnesota didn’t carry over four days later at Soldier Field against Washington on Thursday night.
At halftime, the Bears hadn’t scored. Fields had completed only 50 percent of his passes and thrown a pick, while getting sacked three times.
When the game ended, the Bears mustered only seven points, putting up a historic 0-for-3 in goal-to-go situations in a 12-7 loss to the Commanders.
Coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy have a lot to sort through during the 11 days between games. It’s not an official bye week, but it gives the Bears time to try to figure out how to jump-start the offense.
Rewatching the loss with the All-22 camera view on NFL Plus, the Bears should see some positives when Fields was on the move … on purpose. Too often, though, Fields was scrambling and trying to outrun defenders. That can be because of offensive line leaks and/or Fields’ own decision-making, but he’s tucking it and running too soon.
Eberflus spun it optimistically that Fields got the Bears into scoring position several times, but seven points is seven points. Let’s look back at some key plays, from sacks to scrambles to big throws on the move in this week’s All-22 review.
