Former world No. 4 Tomas Berdych thought “everything just clicked perfectly” for him when he met Novak Djokovic at 2010 Wimbledon. Berdych saw off Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinal 6-3 7-6 (9) 6-3 to reach his maiden Grand Slam final.
“That felt really good. That’s something that always comes up in my mind,” Berdych said on the Game to Love tennis podcast, as revealed on Sportskeeda. “It’s really a nice bright experience from the past and yeah, I think everything just clicked perfectly that day and I had 100% of myself being on the court and the result is a win over Novak.
Yeah, I mean one of those matches is something that’ll be with you all the time.”
Berdych met Emma Raducanu
Berdych, who retired in 2019, had a chance to practice with US Open champion Raducanu at the recent ATP Champions Tour event.
“I just actually had a chance to hit with her right now and it’s great to see her on the court. I mean, young lady being so passionate about it already with a result like that. So I mean in a good way it’s a tough future waiting on her but I would say with nice bright lights around it,” Berdych said.
Berdych lost to Rafael Nadal in his lone Grand Slam final but he’s happy with the career he had. “I’m not ashamed of the matches where I probably should have done something different or achieved something more,” Berdych noted.
“I look at it the other way. There are matches which stay in mind, like the second round at Wimbledon (in 2010) when I was two sets to one down against Denis Istomin. “I had some stomach problems and spent about 20 minutes in the toilet!
It was terrible, but I didn’t want to let the moment go. I came back, won in a fifth set and then reached the final, beating Federer and Djokovic. “I had a pretty successful career. I am absolutely at peace with myself.”
