Historical NASCAR racing series appears to be in the works
Wouldn’t that be something?
NASCAR team owner Justin Marks announced the ‘NASCAR Classic’ idea to social media in mid-December. The idea would see NASCAR race cars for eras prior back in-action on modern racing circuits.
Immediately, the idea was welcomed by nostalgic racing fans. Soon after, former drivers and crew chiefs stepped were ready to step up and provide the cars for such an idea.
Days later, NASCAR filed an interesting trademark.
Justin Marks opens the NASCAR Classic idea
Justin Marks is the co-owner of Trackhouse Racing. In his words, the team is more of ‘a brand’ and they have a history of creating unique ideas.
“What if we did the first ever NASCAR historic race event?,” Justin Marks tweeted on December 17th.
“4 races: 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s. Let’s find all the restored, track-ready cars in the US. Get a bunch of legends to the event. And celebrate the decades of history. N Wilkesboro? The Rock? Charlotte? What do y’all think…”
Marks added, “The quality of the competition would be second to just a celebration of the history. Probably wouldn’t be an all out race, just a demonstration of the legacy.”
NASCAR community responds very positive to the idea
Ray Evernham stated, “Im in, Ill bring cars.”
David Ragan mirrored, “Sign me up!”
Garrett Smithley added, “F1 successfully does this every GP weekend right? No reason we couldn’t execute this. I got to drive a Cale car years ago at concord speedway. Would be super cool to see a field of these things.”
Ricky Carmichael tweeted, “I support this message.”
Bobby Labonte with a word, “interesting.”
NASCAR Classic: Trademark Filed
