The Giants are playing their first playoff game in six years as they take on the Vikings in a wild-card round showdown Sunday in Minneapolis.
The G-Men enter the 2023 NFL postseason as the NFC’s No. 6 seed after posting a 9-7-1 record in their first season under head coach Brian Daboll. This will be the first career playoff game for Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley and many others on New York’s roster.
They’ll look to pull off an upset on the road against the No. 3-seeded Vikings, who are led by fellow first-year coach Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell is familiar with win-or-go-home football — he helped lead the Rams to a Lombardi Trophy as their offensive coordinator last season.

The Vikings have been living on the edge all season; they’re 11-0 in one-possession games. They’ll be hoping to avoid another nail-biter, but they’ve shown over and over that they can deliver in crunch time.
Many have picked the Giants to pull off an upset against a suspect Vikings defense, but with playmakers like Justin Jefferson and Dalvin Cook lining up for the home team, it certainly won’t be easy.

Giants vs. Vikings live updates, highlights from NFL playoffs
(All times Eastern.)
7:27 p.m. — An unfortunate scene on the ensuing kickoff: Giants special teams player Jason Pinnock suffered what seems to be a pretty serious injury. The cart is coming out to take him off the field.
Giants 31, Vikings 24
7:19 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Barkley keeps his legs churning and bullies his way into the end zone for his second touchdown of the game! The Giants take the lead on another epic drive!
Saquon is too strong 💪@Giants back up by seven with 7:47 to go.

7:17 p.m. — Richie James makes a catch, but he’s thrown out of bounds just a half yard short of the marker. The Giants are going to go for this on 4th and inches from inside the 10. Jones sneaks up the middle, and he gets the 1st down! Massive conversion there!
7:15 p.m. — Jones has all day to throw on 2nd and 5 from inside the red zone, but the coverage was excellent and he’s forced to throw it away. Huge 3rd down play coming up.
7:13 p.m. — Hodgins is having himself a day! He makes a beautiful toe-tap catch along the left sideline to pick up 19 yards. Great throw by Jones rolling to his left, great catch by Hodgins.
Daniel Jones rolling left. What a catch by @IsaiahHodgins!

7:11 p.m. — Slayton has returned to the game for New York after his earlier injury, and he picks up 14 on a catch and run to the right sideline. Two plays later, a defensive holding call on Chandon Sullivan moves the Giants across midfield.
Giants 24, Vikings 24
7:05 p.m. FIELD GOAL — We’ve got a tie ball game. Greg Joseph knocks it through from 38 yards to make it 24-24 with 12:34 left in the game.
7:04 p.m. — Oh man, Minnesota commits a brutal false start penalty. Christian Darrisaw flinched just before the snap. This will force a field goal attempt as it becomes 4th and 6 instead of 4th and 1.
7:02 p.m. — Hockenson makes another grab on 3rd and 9 and fights hard to reach the marker, but he’ll be spotted just inches short after some discussion among the officials. Facing 4th and 1 from inside the red zone, Kevin O’Connell has a decision to make here.
7:01 p.m. — On 2nd and 13, Cook makes a catch and spins out of a tackle, but he can’t quite keep his balance as he stumbles down for a short gain. If he had stayed on his feet, he had an awful lot of open field in front of him.
End of third quarter: Giants 24, Vikings 21
6:56 p.m. — After a deep shot to Jefferson falls incomplete, a handoff to Cook gets blown up and loses a few yards. On 3rd and 13, Cousins goes to Osborn for a gain of 11. It’s 4th down, but the Vikings are going to go for this. Cousins looks right for Hockenson, who absorbs a big hit but hangs on for a gain of 18! Minnesota has the ball on New York’s 25 yard line as the third quarter comes to a close. This could be quite a finish!
6:54 p.m. — On 3rd and 2, Cousins throws a short pass to Cook, who dives past the marker to pick up a 1st down.
6:52 p.m. — Thibodeaux’s injury doesn’t look too bad, thankfully. His hand got stepped on by a Vikings offensive lineman, which definitely can’t have felt good, but they’re taping it up now on the sideline.
6:50 p.m. — Minnesota can tie it or take the lead here, and the drive starts in positive fashion with a 12-yard completion to Thielen. The next play is a short run by Cook, but oh no. Bad news for Giants fans. Rookie star Kayvon Thibodeaux is down hurt.
6:45 p.m. — After a short Barkley run and an incompletion, it’s 3rd and 7. Jones drops back and looks to throw, but he’s swarmed by Vikings and dropped for a crucial sack! How big was that for this Minnesota defense? Jalen Reagor muffed the punt, but one of his teammates was able to pounce on the loose ball to keep possession with the Vikings. Bullet dodged.
6:43 p.m. — On 3rd and 1, Matt Breida fights tooth and nail to just barely reach the marker and pick up a first down! Great effort there by the journeyman running back.
6:40 p.m. — Not to be outdone, here’s Cousins’ equally impressive stat line: 17 of 21, 191 passing yards, 3 total touchdowns, 0 turnovers. We have something of a shootout brewing here in Minneapolis.
Giants 24, Vikings 21
6:38 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Cousins goes to the back corner of the end zone for Irv Smith Jr., who makes the grab for a touchdown! Another fantastic response by Minnesota cuts the lead back to 3!
Count it. @Vikings respond with a @swervinirvin_ TD! #Skol

6:34 p.m. — The Giants briefly think they have an interception, but after discussion the officials rule that the ball hit the turf and it was actually an incomplete pass. That was a close call, though. The ensuing play is a 3rd and 7 and Cousins is able to connect with Hockenson, who picks up 19 yards and moves the ball into Giants territory!
6:33 p.m. — Cousins and his offense go back to work needing another response. A pass to tight end Johnny Mundt picks up 12 yards and kickstarts the drive with a 1st down.
6:30 p.m. — Daniel Jones’ stat line so far: 16 of 20, 218 passing yards, 71 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 turnovers. He is putting on a show.
Giants 24, Vikings 14
6:27 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Jones finds his tight end Daniel Bellinger wide open to the left for a walk-in score! That was simply too easy. The Giants push their lead back to 10 points.
.@Daniel_Jones10 play-action. @bellinger_12 TD! #TogetherBlue

6:25 p.m. — On the very next play, hedging makes another grab and tightropes down the right sideline for another big gain of about 30 yards! The Giants quickly have it in the red zone.
6:24 p.m. — Barkley gets buried on the first play of the half, losing a few yards in the process. Hodgins then makes a catch to pick up 10 yards and set up 3rd and 3. Jones takes the snap, drops back and throws left to a wide open Barkley, who surges downfield for a gain of 24 yards! Another 3rd down conversion!
6:22 p.m. — Two quarters of football left to determine who will move on and keep their Super Bowl dreams alive. The Vikings will kick off, with the Giants getting the ball first in this half.
End of first half: Giants 17, Vikings 14
6:08 p.m. — After a few halfhearted passing plays, Brian Daboll throws in the towel with 2 seconds left and takes a knee to send us to halftime. A very entertaining first 30 minutes here in Minneapolis.
6:05 p.m. — The Giants get the ball back with 45 seconds left on the clock to work with. On 1st down, a pass intended for Slayton falls incomplete. Looks like the receiver was shaken up on the play, and he’ll walk gingerly to the sideline.
Giants 17, Vikings 14
6:01 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Huge answer from the Vikes! K.J. Osborn gets into the end zone to pull Minnesota back within three!
.@KirkCousins8 to @KJ_Osborn and the @Vikings are within three! #Skol

5:58 p.m. — Hockenson gets open again, and Cousins finds him again to pick up 28 more yards! Minnesota has it on the edge of the red zone with about a minute and a half remaining.
5:55 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — The Vikings get the ball back with just 3:25 left on the clock. They face a quick 3rd and 9, but Cousins is able to connect with a wide open Hockenson, who makes the catch and runs for a big gain of almost 30 yards to move Minnesota all the way across midfield. After a Cook run loses a couple yards, we’ve reached the two-minute warning.
Giants 17, Vikings 7
5:51 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The 20-play, 85-yard drive ends with a Graham Gano field goal to extend the Giants’ lead. It also took nearly 11 minutes off the clock. Brian Daboll will be a little annoyed to have to settle for three points there, though.
5:47 p.m. — A Jones rushing touchdown gets wiped out by a killer illegal shift penalty. After a short run (on some kind of Statue of Liberty play) and an incompletion, it’s 3rd and goal from about the 6 yard line. Jones looks to throw, but his pass is broken up! The Vikings’ defense bends (a lot) but doesn’t break, and New York will have to settle for a field goal.
5:46 p.m. — On 3rd and 4, Jones zips one over the middle into tight coverage, and it’s caught by Slayton for a first down! The marathon drive continues, and it’s now 1st and goal Giants!
5:44 p.m. — Jones is just terrorizing the Vikings right now with his running ability. Two more quarterback runs move the ball down inside the red zone as this long drive continues.
5:40 p.m. — Jones keeps making it happen with his legs. He scrambles twice more on back-to-back plays to move the chains and keep the drive alive. He’s a real threat when he finds room to run. Minnesota’s defenders are getting bullied out there.
5:37 p.m. — Facing a quick 3rd and 7, Jones is able to sling a pass to Hodgins for 9 yards and a first down. This Vikings defense is having a hard time getting off the field. Two plays later, Jones tucks and scrambles downfield for a pickup up 14 more yards.
5:32 p.m. — Another nice run by Cook picks up 7 yards, but an incompletion on the following play brings up 3rd and 3. Cousins drops back, rolls right and looks for a target to throw to, but he runs out of time and just has to heave it away. Another series ends with a punt for Minnesota. They badly need a stop on defense right now.
End of first quarter: Giants 14, Vikings 7
5:27 p.m. — Cook fights ahead for an 11-yard gain on the ground and a 1st down, and that will be the final play of the opening quarter. Heck of a start in Minneapolis.
5:26 p.m. — How about the start to this game? Jones and Cousins are a combined 14 of 14 with 162 passing yards and 2 total touchdowns.
Giants 14, Vikings 7
5:23 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Another lightning-quick touchdown drive for New York! Jones hits Isaiah Hodgins in the end zone for a Giants touchdown!
.@Giants are off to a hot start! @Daniel_Jones10 hits @IsaiahHodgins and Big Blue is up 14-7.

5:21 p.m. — Barkley keeps his legs churning on another great run, bulldozing his way into the red zone for a 16 yard gain.
5:20 p.m. — Big play by the Giants to start their drive! Jones finds a WIDE open Slayton, who makes the catch and runs all the way down to about the Minnesota 35 yard line for a gain of 47!
5:15 p.m. — The Vikings get the ball back, and Jefferson makes a catch for a short gain on 1st down. After Alexander Mattison gets dragged down just short of the marker, it’s 3rd and 1. The Vikings boldly try a trick play, with Jefferson tossing the ball back across the field to Cousins, but the Giants are all over it and they drop him for a loss. Very interesting play call there but it didn’t pay off. Minnesota will be forced to punt.
Vikings 7, Giants 7
5:10 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Wow, what an answer! Barkley takes a pitch to the left side, gets a block and suddenly finds nothing but daylight ahead of him, jogging in for a 28-yard score! This game has started with a bang!

5:08 p.m. — After a catch by Richie James picks up 13 yards, Jones scrambles right on 2nd and 7 to pick up the first down. One play later, he finds Darius Slayton for a 22 yard pickup. The Giants are moving the ball well here too.
5:06 p.m. — Saquon Barkley rips off a strong run on the Giants’ first offensive play, but it’s going to be called back for holding on Nick Gates to set up 1st and 20.
5:04 p.m. — Cousins was a perfect 7 of 7 on that drive, and he capped it off with a touchdown to boot. Not too shabby. How will the Giants respond?
Vikings 7, Giants 0
5:03 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — There it is, after a slight delay! Cousins sneaks it up the gut and gets just enough to break the plane and open the scoring! What an opening drive by the Vikings!
Kirk goes 7-for-7 with a QB sneak for six on the opening drive! #Skol

5:02 p.m. — The call is overturned and they’ll spot the ball about a foot outside of the end zone.
5:00 p.m. — Jefferson makes a catch and heads for the right corner of the end zone, extending the ball towards the pylon… And the officials call it a touchdown! However, they’re going to take a look at this. He may have been just a hair short when his knee went down.
4:58 p.m. — Facing 3rd and 2, Cousins zips a pass right for T.J. Hockenson, who makes the catch to set up 1st and goal. The drive stays alive.
4:55 p.m. — Cousins finds Adam Thielen for another nice gain of 13 yards. Very strong start for Cousins in this one. After another catch by Jefferson and an encroachment penalty on New York’s Dexter Lawrence, it’s 1st and 10 Vikings inside the red zone.
4:53 p.m. — Dalvin Cook gets back-to-back handoffs and picks up another first down. Then, another completion over the middle to Jefferson moves the ball into Giants territory.
4:51 p.m. — Kirk Cousins takes the field for the first time today, and on the first play from scrimmage he throws a dart to Justin Jefferson for a gain of 10 yards.
4:50 p.m. — Here we go. One team’s season will end today, while the other will be one step closer to its ultimate goal. Kickoff is just moments away, with Minnesota getting the ball first on offense.
4:42 p.m. — The teams have taken the field as we draw closer to (delayed) kickoff in this NFC wild card showdown.
4:36 p.m. — Huge game for the Vikings. Will they prove they’re a legit contender with a good performance today?

4:25 p.m. — With the Bills vs. Dolphins game heading for an exciting finish, kickoff in this Giants vs. Vikings game has been pushed back by 20 minutes to 4:50 p.m. ET (3:50 p.m. CT) to avoid any overlap between the games.
Kickoff of Giants-Vikings has been pushed back to 4:50 ET, presumably because of the lengthy Dolphins-Bills game that has 9:19 remaining.
