Lamichhane was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl on August 21. He was charged under Section 219 of the Criminal Code 2074. If convicted, he faces a jail term of 10 to 12 years as per existing legal provisions. A case was filed against the minor cricketer on September 6 at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala.
With the decision taken by cricket’s governing body, the 22-year-old is available for selection in national and international tournaments. CAN placed him under suspension on September 8. However, it is unclear whether he will be selected for the Nepal tri-series national team camp for the ICC World League 2 matches with Namibia and Scotland.
The 22-year-old leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has represented Nepal in 30 ODIs and 44 T20 Internationals so far. He took 69 wickets in ODIs with an economy rate of 4.02 and 78 wickets in T20 Internationals. He has taken a total of 193 wickets in his entire T20 career so far. The wrist-spinner was selected as Nepal’s first IPL selection by the Delhi franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018.
